Navratri is a celebration of Shakti — the divine feminine power that transforms, protects, and creates.
But have you ever wondered why Maa Durga is depicted sitting on or riding a lion? What does this symbolism teach us about our own inner nature?
The lion represents raw power, instinct, desire, and the force within us that can either guide our actions or control them.
Maa Durga doesn’t destroy the lion. She learns to direct its power.
Our desires are like the lion — raw, powerful, and often scattered. The problem is not having desires, but allowing them to control us.
In the yogic tradition, the path is not always about suppressing what we feel or destroying what we want. It is about understanding that energy and giving it the right direction.
Shakti expresses itself through three forms:
Iccha Shakti — the power to know what you truly want.
Kriya Shakti — the power to turn that intention into action.
Prana Shakti — the vital energy that sustains your efforts and keeps you steady.
Desire without direction becomes distraction. Action without energy becomes exhaustion. But when intention, action, and energy work together, scattered desires can become purposeful strength.
Just as Maa Durga sits upon the lion, we too can learn to master our inner power without being ruled by it.
Don’t kill the lion. Learn to sit on it.
शुभ नवरात्रि 🙏
