PHYSICAL SIGNS OF STRESS MANY PEOPLE IGNORE
Stress can affect the body in many ways
Stress does not only affect your thoughts. It can produce very real physical symptoms throughout the body. Common signs include tension headaches, jaw clenching or teeth grinding, tight neck and shoulder muscles, palpitations, sweating, digestive changes, trouble sleeping, daytime fatigue, and worsening acne, eczema, or itching.
These symptoms occur because the nervous system and stress hormones can influence muscles, heart rate, digestion, sleep, and skin inflammation.
Possible solutions include regular physical activity, consistent sleep schedules, reducing excessive caffeine, taking breaks from prolonged screen time, stretching tense muscles, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and identifying situations that repeatedly trigger symptoms. Psychological support can also be extremely helpful when stress becomes persistent or difficult to manage.
A primary care doctor can evaluate physical symptoms and rule out other medical causes. A psychologist or psychiatrist may help when stress, anxiety, poor sleep, or mood changes are significantly affecting daily life.
Your body often gives warning signs before you realize how overwhelmed you feel.
