💡 What Really Happens Inside Our Body When We Breathe?👃
We take thousands of breaths every day—usually without giving them a second thought.
But behind every breath is an incredible process happening inside our body.
When we inhale, oxygen travels through the trachea, bronchi and bronchioles before reaching millions of tiny air sacs called alveoli.
At the alveoli, oxygen crosses into the bloodstream and attaches to red blood cells. The oxygen-rich blood then travels through the heart and is pumped throughout the body, supplying our brain, muscles and vital organs with the oxygen they need.
At the same time, our cells produce carbon dioxide (CO₂) as a waste product. This travels back through the bloodstream to the lungs, enters the alveoli, and is removed when we exhale.
But what happens when the lungs become diseased?
Inflammation, excess mucus, narrowed airways, infections, scarring and damage to the alveoli can interfere with this delicate process—making it harder for oxygen to enter the bloodstream efficiently.
Understanding how our lungs work helps us understand why protecting lung health matters.
