Medical Service Centre Will this state of affair continue forever? Is there no way out to be ridden of this dead weight free? Should we merely be silent spectators?

A national level socio-medical voluntary organisation of India, committed to stand by people through disaster, distress and deprivation of health, on the anvil of medical ethics. All these - endless sufferings of the ailing masses, lack of pro-people health policies, absence of empathy for the suffering multitude, gross erosion of the medical ethics evoked deep concern and pain in us, a group of medical students, doctors, sisters and other health personnel. Shall we not exert our individual role to transform the situation? Flood, drought, cyclone, earthquake, one epidemic on the heel of an other – are these inevitable? Then who will be the harbingers of medical ethics and values? Can we forget the realisation of the greatest scientist of this era, Albert Einstein, to fulfill the social obligation : “A hundred times everyday I remind myself that my inner and outer life depends on the labours of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving”. Thus emerged the nucleus of Medical Service Centre.

PRESS STATEMENT

Dr. Bhabani Sankar Das, General Secretary, Medical Service Centre, highlighted the plight of Junior Doctors in movement in various states of the country. Upholding the just demands raised in Jammu, Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, he said:

Medical Service Centre supports MBBS and BDS Interns’ STRUGGLE FOR PROPER STIPEND in Jammu & Kashmir and stands in solidarity with protesting doctors of UP against DISCRIMINATORY REMUNERATION.

The Medical Service Centre extends its wholehearted support to the ongoing movement of MBBS internship students in Jammu Kashmir, for their legitimate demand for a proper and adequate stipend during their internship. According to the Interns, stipend has not been revised since 2019 and in comparison to other states, it is far less.

In another development, MBBS doctors of Uttar Pradesh are in a movement against discriminatory remunerations for bonded doctors and demanding "one bond one salary". Doctors posted in CHC and PHCs are paid less than those posted in medical colleges. MSC is of the view that, young doctors must not be forced into service through punitive bonds.

We call to all State and Central governments to stop exploiting junior and newly qualified doctors. Governments must ensure regular recruitment, decent salaries, safe working conditions and adequate infrastructure in public hospitals as per IPHS.

MSC supports the agitating doctors and urge the Governments to immediately end the discrimination in the pay and bring the impasse to an amicable settlement, and end disciplinary steps on all agitating Health Care Professionals.
