Answering that “what if” makes it worse.

Reassurance in OCD feels like relief, but it only feeds the beast. Whether the fear is about your relationships, morality, or contamination, the compulsion is just an attempt to buy certainty.

The time OCD takes from you matters.

So do the routines it creates and the ways it shapes your everyday life. These are important considerations when assessing OCD severity and the need for complex care.
Senior Consultant Psychologist Bhairavi Mhatre discusses how severity is really understood.

Your words can instantly validate or isolate a mother.

When a new mother is struggling, families often jump straight to offering unsolicited advice or minimising her feelings. Partners and family members are usually the first to spot the signs of distress. How we respond makes all the difference.

Having horrible thoughts doesn’t make you a bad mother.

One of the most terrifying fear a new mother can experience is having intrusive thoughts about harming her baby. Because of the intense shame, most women suffer in silence, believing that having the thought means they will actually do it. But intrusive thoughts are non-voluntary, highly distressing images or ideas that cross our minds and having them does not mean you are going to act on them. However, when these thoughts become repetitive, constant, and deeply overwhelming, it becomes a clear signal that your mind is under severe stress and needs care.

OCD can show up in ways that aren’t always easy to recognise.

For OCD Awareness Week, Amaha is bringing together clinicians and people with lived experience for a conversation on what OCD can actually look and feel like, how it can affect everyday life and relationships, and what treatment and recovery can look like.

The session is open to students, clinicians, mental-health professionals, people with lived experience, and anyone interested in understanding OCD better.

Certificates of participation will be provided to attendees.

Staying busy feels safer than slowing down?

For high-achievers and chronic caretakers, busyness isn’t just a habit but can be an inherited defense mechanism. Deep down, your nervous system learned that dropping your guard invited chaos, so it traded authentic rest for perfectionism and hyper-independence.

Your tired brain treats bedtime like a battlefield.

When nighttime brings wired-and-tired exhaustion instead of relief, your nervous system is stuck in an invisible loop of hyper-vigilance. Pushing harder to force rest only spikes your cortisol further, trapping you in a cycle where even lying down feels like high alert.

Becoming a mother changes your entire identity overnight.

We talk endlessly about adolescence, but we rarely talk about matrescence, the profound psychological transformation of becoming a parent. Just like teenage years rewire who you are, stepping into parenthood fundamentally shifts your identity. Before baby, your life is defined by your career, your personal routines, and your independence. During pregnancy, you’re showered with care and placed on a pedestal. That sudden loss of focus and identity is a massive psychological transition, yet so few are prepared for it.

Moving away isn’t just leaving a place.
Sometimes, it’s grieving the life you had there.

The kind of grief that sneaks up on you when you least expect it.

Our counselling psychologists, Gauri Saxena and Amaan Shaikh, unpack the grief that comes with relocation.

Have you felt this way before?
