When someone ENDs his/her life for apparently no reason means that they were silently suffering. Their suffering was probably so much that they thought it was better to end life than face each day full of suffering. It comes as a huge shock to the family members as they never knew that this individual was suffering internally.
“She never said anything!!”,
“He looked so OK, I just met her 2 day ago and she happily talked to me!!”
This is what we get to hear from people around these individuals. Chances are very high that they suffered from SEVERE DEPRESSION.
Probably they never felt that they could share their inner states with anyone –
“No one will understand what I am saying…”, “No one is bothered to ask me – how I feel…”, “why should I trouble them with my problems…?” is what may be going through their minds.
They do not approach Psychiatrists or Counsellors due to the impression that we as a society have about Mental Health and Mental Health Professionals. “What would people say??”, “I do not want to show them that I am weak…”, “No one in my family will approve of this…”, “I am not MAD”.
Often parents take their children along – they kill them before killing themselves – so distorted the thinking becomes under the influence on DEPRESSED MIND. Sensibility may be completely lost.
This is preventable and treatable!!
We as society need to encourage individuals for seeking help and not condemn them for suffering. We do not condemn someone for having CANCER – we try and do everything to save their lives. DEPRESSION is not as fatal if treated properly. A person with cancer may die inspite of treatment but the outcome for Depression is MUCH BETTER.
ENCOURAGE people to share their feelings… ALLOW them to seek help… DIRECT them to professional help… SAVE THEIR LIVES…
NUMBER OF PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION IS ON THE RISE… BE SENSITIVE TO YOUR NEAR AND DEAR ONES…
YOU MAY JUST SAVE A LIFE.
