What do running biomechanics look like in recreational runners from Barranquilla, Colombia? 🇨🇴
A new study by researchers at Universidad Simón Bolívar, published in the Journal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology (MDPI), establishes preliminary reference values for spatiotemporal and kinematic running parameters in healthy adult recreational runners.
Using the BTS SMART-DX motion capture system and BTS SMART Clinic software, the research team analyzed 25 runners on a treadmill at four different speeds (7–13 km/h), assessing key biomechanical parameters including stride length, cadence, flight time, vertical oscillation, and leg stiffness.
📊 Compared with a European reference cohort, the runners showed 3.1% higher cadence and 19% lower vertical oscillation, highlighting the importance of population-specific biomechanical reference data for clinical assessment, rehabilitation, and sports science.
👏 Congratulations to the research team on this valuable contribution! We're proud to see BTS technologies supporting scientific research and advancing our understanding of human movement.
