Advancing collaboration in diabetes and endocrinology
On 3 September, the Uzwena team had the opportunity to attend the CORE Summit at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, a collaborative meeting bringing together experts and healthcare teams from Kenya and Pakistan.

The summit explored the interconnected Cardiometabolic, Obesity, Renal and Endocrine (CORE) spectrum, with excellent, practical and highly relevant discussions on diabetes, obesity, complications, thyroid disorders, cardiovascular and renal health.

We were especially proud to see Prof. Nancy Kunyiha contribute as part of the faculty and moderation team.

Events like these demonstrate the value of cross-country collaboration, knowledge exchange and continuous medical education in strengthening how we prevent, diagnose and manage metabolic disease.

A great day of learning, collaboration and connecting across borders.

Advancing metabolic health options in Kenya.

On Saturday, Nairobi hosted the launch of a GLP-1/GIP-based therapy that adds another option in the management of overweight and obesity and the metabolic complications associated with them.

The conversation was an important reminder that while advances in treatment can support better outcomes and potentially reduce comorbidities and complications, prevention remains at the heart of healthier communities.

As Prof. Nancy Kunyiha, Consultant Physician Endocrinologist and Founder of Uzwena Health, reminded us:

“Prevention remains the most powerful intervention for our communities.”

Prevention, early detection, timely intervention and access to quality care must continue alongside innovation in treatment.

A valuable step forward in the conversation around metabolic health, obesity and diabetes care in Kenya.

Long-term health isn't built through drastic transformations. It's built through small, consistent choices repeated every day.

Preventive health and wellness rarely require overnight change. Instead, lasting vitality comes from simple habits that compound over time.

Here are 4 small daily habits with a big impact on long-term health:

- Move for 15-30 minutes daily

You don't need an intense workout every day. A brisk walk can support heart health, improve circulation, and boost energy levels.

- Hydrate first thing in the morning

Starting your day with water helps restore hydration, supports kidney function, and improves focus.

- Include fiber in every meal

Vegetables, legumes, fruits, and whole grains help stabilize blood sugar and support gut health.

- Maintain a consistent sleep schedule

Going to bed and waking up at roughly the same time each day helps regulate your body's natural rhythms and supports overall well-being.

Remember: Consistency beats intensity. Small actions taken daily can help prevent bigger health challenges in the future.

Healthy Aging Starts with Metabolic Health 💙

Aging is one of life's greatest privileges. But growing older does not have to mean accepting declining health, reduced independence, or a lower quality of life.

This World Senior Citizen's Day, we are highlighting an often-overlooked pillar of healthy aging: metabolic health.

As we age, our bodies naturally undergo changes that affect how we regulate blood sugar, process energy, maintain muscle mass, and manage inflammation. Over time, these shifts can increase the risk of conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic illnesses.

What makes these conditions challenging is that they often develop quietly, many people feel fine for years while important metabolic markers gradually shift in the wrong direction.

The good news? Early detection and preventive action make a meaningful difference:

• Regular Screenings: Monitor blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, thyroid. Not to forget - Cancer screening.
• Nutrient-Dense Nutrition: Support overall metabolic function with balanced meals.
• Consistent Movement: Maintain strength, mobility, and insulin sensitivity.
• Early Intervention: Address subtle health changes as soon as they appear.

Healthy ageing is not about chasing perfection; it is about creating the conditions that allow people to remain active, independent, and engaged in the things they love.

This World Senior Citizen's Day, let's shift the conversation from managing disease to preserving health.

Take Action Today: Whether for yourself, a parent, or a loved one, a preventive metabolic health assessment can help identify risks early. Contact Uzwena Health today to schedule an assessment.

Because longevity is not just about living longer, it's about living better.

World Brain Day — The Brain-Metabolic Connection

Ever had those days where even simple tasks feel like climbing Mt. Kenya? You misplace your keys, lose your train of thought mid-meeting. Maybe you think of something that you need in another room, but when you get to the room, you cannot remember why you were there in the first place, or feel like you’re wading through molasses.

We often chalk it up to stress or poor sleep. But on World Brain Day, we want to spotlight a hidden player: your endocrine system.

Your brain thrives on metabolic balance. When hormones are off, your brain is often the first to send distress signals:

Thyroid Underperformance: Think of thyroid hormones as your body’s spark plugs. When they run low, brain metabolism slows—leading to “brain fog,” memory lapses, and fatigue.

Glucose Rollercoasters: Sudden spikes and crashes in blood sugar can leave you irritable, unfocused, and mentally drained. Stable glucose = sustained clarity.

Mental sharpness isn’t about “pushing through.” It’s about keeping your body’s chemistry in sync.

If unexplained brain fog has been holding you back, it may be time to look deeper. A metabolic check could be the missing piece to restoring your energy and focus.

Chronic Wellness & Patient Empowerment

As we continue to mark Chronic Disease Awareness Month this July, we want to pause and speak directly to anyone who has ever sat in a doctor's office and heard the words 'You have diabetes,' 'Your thyroid isn't functioning properly,' or 'This is a lifelong condition.'

We know how heavy that moment can feel. It is completely normal to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or uncertain about what the future looks like.

But here is what we believe down to our core at Uzwena Health: A chronic diagnosis is not a life sentence. It is the possibility of the start of a hopeful and well-managed new chapter.

Living with a metabolic or endocrine condition requires a shift in how you navigate your daily life, but it should never stop you from living a courageous, uninhibited life. The secret lies in moving from fear to management.

When you have the right clinical team, the right data (like tracking your glucose trends), and a personalized plan that fits your lifestyle, you reclaim control. You are the driver; the condition is just riding in the backseat.

This month, we aren't just raising 'awareness' about chronic illness. We are raising awareness about chronic wellness, the fact that with the right support, you can thrive, achieve your goals, and truly live every day.

If you or a loved one is trying to navigate a recent diagnosis or feel stuck in your current routine, remember you don't have to walk this path alone. Let’s partner together. 🤝

Mid‑Year Burnout Is Biological, Not Just Mental

It’s Monday, July 6th, and the second half of the year has begun. If you’re starting the week feeling drained, it’s not simply “lack of motivation.” It’s your body responding to mid‑year burnout.

Continuous stress doesn’t just weigh on your mind; it disrupts your endocrine system. Elevated cortisol interferes with glucose metabolism, triggering midday crashes, brain fog, and sugar cravings as your body scrambles for quick energy.

The reset you need isn’t a month off. It’s stabilizing your system. Small, consistent habits can restore balance and protect your focus.

We’ve broken down how mid‑year stress impacts metabolic energy, plus 3 endocrinologist‑approved fixes to help you reclaim resilience.

👉 Swipe through the slides, save this post for July, and share in the comments: How are your energy levels holding up today?

Feeling "fine" isn't a medical metric.

We often say we’re “fine”, but health isn’t measured by how we feel in the moment. Many conditions, from metabolic imbalances to cardiovascular risks, develop silently long before symptoms appear.

Preventive diagnostics go beyond the surface. They reveal the hidden markers of resilience, such as stabilizing blood sugar levels, monitoring lipid panels, and balancing key hormones, that determine whether “fine” today translates into sustained wellbeing tomorrow.

At Uzwena Health, we believe true wellbeing is measurable. By combining data-driven lifestyle practices with preventative screenings, you actively protect your healthspan, sustain workplace productivity, and build long-term physiological resilience.

Don’t settle for “fine.” Book your preventive screening with Uzwena Health today to make your health measurable, actionable, and future‑proof.
