This Psoriasis Awareness Month, let’s talk about the things people with psoriasis are tired of hearing.

“Is it contagious?”
“Maybe you just need to bathe better.”
“Have you tried this home remedy?” 😭

We know most people mean well, but comments like these can be hurtful — and some are simply not true.

Psoriasis isn’t contagious. It isn’t caused by poor hygiene. And it’s more than a skin condition.

Ask. Listen. Learn. Don’t assume. 💙

Pregnancy and postpartum brought joy, uncertainty, difficult questions and moments when Wangui Gathere wished there was more guidance for women like her living with psoriatic disease.

She says that sharing her experience is her way of saying to another woman: ‘you are not alone’…Her story is a reminder that behind every statistic is a real person, making important decisions about her health, her family and her future.

But personal stories are only the beginning. As we continue with this campaign we call for:

❗️More research on the reproductive health needs of women living with psoriatic disease.
❗️Stronger multidisciplinary collaboration between dermatologists, rheumatologists, obstetricians, gynaecologists, primary healthcare providers and mental health professionals.
❗️Greater access to evidence based information to support informed decision making before, during and after pregnancy.
❗️Person centred care that recognises reproductive health as an essential part of living well with psoriatic disease.

This way, we can ensure that no woman has to face these decisions alone.

Here, Lillian Okoth, a dermatology nurse at Kenyatta National Hospital reflects on how the Psoriasis & Family Planning training and the Family Planning Checklist have transformed the way healthcare providers think about women of childbearing age living with psoriatic disease.

For many healthcare professionals, the training highlighted the unique challenges women face when navigating family planning, pregnancy, breastfeeding, medication safety, and shared decision making while living with psoriasis. It also reinforced the need for a more holistic, patient centred approach to care one that goes beyond treating the skin and considers the whole person.

The session also underscored the importance of continued training for healthcare providers, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and tools to support informed reproductive health conversations with confidence.

This is exactly why this project was created: to bridge knowledge gaps, strengthen communication between patients and healthcare providers, and ensure that no woman living with psoriatic disease has to make these important life decisions without the information and support she deserves.

Special thanks to for partnering with the Psoriasis Association of Kenya to make this initiative possible.

Meet , a mother of one living with psoriatic disease. 💙

In this video, Mary shares her journey through family planning, pregnancy, and motherhood while living with psoriasis. She speaks openly about the importance of involving your partner, having honest conversations with your dermatologist, understanding medication safety, and making informed decisions before and during pregnancy.

Her story is a reminder that no one should have to navigate these decisions alone. With the right information, support, and shared decision making, people living with psoriatic disease can make choices that are right for them and their families.

We are proud to amplify patient voices and create spaces for open conversations about reproductive health and psoriatic disease.

A heartfelt thank you to for partnering us to make this initiative possible and to support better conversations, better decisions, and better care.

Every story matters. Every question deserves an answer.

Living with psoriasis often means making decisions that go beyond managing your skin.

Questions about fertility, pregnancy, breastfeeding, treatment options, and family planning are important but many people never feel comfortable asking them.

Sometimes it’s because we are embarrassed, sometimes it’s because we don’t know what to ask and sometimes it’s because no one has started the conversation.

As part of our campaign, we want to hear from you:

❓Have you ever hesitated to discuss psoriasis, pregnancy, fertility, breastfeeding, or medications with a healthcare provider?

❓What made those conversations easier or more difficult?

Share your thoughts with us.

Today we want to hear from everyone.

Fertility, family planning, pregnancy, and parenthood are not women’s issues alone. Men living with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis may also have questions about fertility, medications, treatment decisions, and starting a family.
