Your body is up to 60% water.
That's your Total Body Water (TBW) and it lives in two places:
1. Intracellular Water (ICW): the water inside your cell
2. Extracellular Water (ECW): the water outside your cells, in your blood plasma and tissue fluid
ECW/TBW is a measure of compartmental fluid distribution, a ratio showing how much of your total body water is extracellular.
A healthy balance sits at roughly 3:2 ICW to ECW, and as a general guide, ECW/TBW should stay below 0.390.
Rising ICW can signal increased lean body mass. As muscle cells grow, they hold more water. Rising ECW can signal something else: inflammation, edema, or in some cases, health issues like kidney strain.
An InBody Test reveals your ECW/TBW ratio, and testing regularly helps you assess your health and spot imbalances over time.
