There is something I need to share…
Last year, I started a journey I never expected to take.
It began with a realisation —
how little we truly know about perimenopause and menopause… not just globally, but right here in Malta.
What shocked me most?
It wasn’t just the lack of awareness among women.
It was the lack of understanding among healthcare professionals.
I kept hearing the same stories from women:
“You just have to deal with it.”
“There’s nothing that can be done.”
“These treatments are dangerous.”
“It’s all in your head.”
And honestly… I was outraged.
Women — at one of the most vulnerable stages of their lives — were being dismissed, unheard, and left to struggle alone.
I have always listened to my patients.
But I’ll admit something honestly: I didn’t know enough.
We are not properly taught about menopause and perimenopause — not in medical school, not during specialist training.
And that didn’t sit right with me.
So I decided to do something about it.
A patient introduced me to The Pause Life by Dr. Mary Claire Haver .
I started learning, reading, questioning everything I thought I knew.
Her book, The New Menopause, opened my eyes.
From there, I discovered The Menopause Society and the International Menopause Society.
I took courses. I studied again.
And in October 2025, I sat for the MSCP exam…
…and I passed.
Receiving the Menopause Society Certified Practitioner badge was an incredible moment — but that wasn’t the real reward.
The real reward came after.
In the past months, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with women going through perimenopause and menopause.
And what they tell me stays with me:
“For the first time, I feel heard.”
“For the first time, I understand what’s happening to me.”
“For the first time… I don’t feel crazy.”
That is everything.
Together, we build a plan.
Not a generic one — a personalised one.
Because there is no “one size fits all.”
Some women improve quickly.
Others need time, adjustments, patience.
But through it all — we work as a team.
And the most beautiful moments?
When a woman realises:
✨ It’s not in her head
✨ She’s not alone
✨ She can feel like herself again
Some cry with relief.
Some laugh.
Some say, “Finally… someone sees me.”
This work has humbled me in ways I cannot fully explain.
And I truly hope more healthcare professionals choose to learn, to listen, and to support women in this phase of life — because it matters more than we realise.
To every woman going through this:
You are not alone.
And you deserve to be heard, supported, and treated properly.
