The University of Malawi, through the Centre for Resilient Agri-Food Systems (CRAFS) and the Food Innovation and Technology Hub (FIT-Hub), showcased a range of research-based agricultural innovations at the 22nd National Agriculture Fair (NAF), held at the Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre from 27 to 29 August 2026. Held under the theme “Transforming Agriculture Through Innovation, Value Addition and Market Linkages,” the fair brought together stakeholders from across the agricultural industry, including manufacturing and trade sectors, to showcase technologies, products and services contributing to agricultural transformation and improved livelihoods in Malawi and the continent.

This year’s NAF theme closely aligned with UNIMA’s work through CRAFS Community Actionable Research Projects for Enterprise (CARP-E) and FIT-Hub, which support the development, incubation and commercialisation of research-based innovations.

DAY 3 | FINAL DAY AT THE 22ND NATIONAL AGRICULTURE FAIR 2026 🇲🇼

Today marks the final day of an inspiring and impactful exhibition journey for SmartCare Nutrition Consultancy at the 22nd National Agriculture Fair in Blantyre, where we proudly showcased Thanzi Sorghum Flour as an incubatee of CRAFS UNIMA FIT-HUB.

Throughout the three days, we had the opportunity to showcase our innovation, engage with farmers, entrepreneurs, consumers, institutions, and fellow innovators, while demonstrating how Thanzi Sorghum Flour can contribute to improved nutrition, food diversification, climate resilience, and value addition of locally produced foods. 🌾🥣

As we conclude the exhibition, we are grateful for every conversation, connection, piece of feedback, and opportunity that will help us improve and scale Thanzi Sorghum Flour.

This experience has strengthened our commitment to developing innovative, nutritious, affordable, and locally made food products that can benefit Malawian communities while creating opportunities for farmers and rural entrepreneurs.

DAY 2 | NATIONAL AGRICULTURE FAIR 2026 🌾

Today, SmartCare Nutrition Consultancy continues showcasing Thanzi Sorghum Flour at the 22nd National Agriculture Fair (NAF) in Blantyre, as an incubatee of CRAFS UNIMA FIT-HUB.

🥣 Thanzi Sorghum Flour is an innovative, nutritious and climate-smart food product developed to promote healthier diets while creating value from locally available and underutilised food resources.

On Day 2, we are engaging farmers, consumers, entrepreneurs, institutions and other stakeholders to learn more about the product, its nutritional value, innovation, market potential and contribution to food and nutrition security in Malawi.

🤝 The exhibition is also providing an opportunity for SmartCare Nutrition Consultancy to network, receive customer feedback, identify potential markets, build partnerships and explore opportunities for scaling Thanzi Sorghum Flour.

DAY 1 | 22ND NATIONAL AGRICULTURE FAIR 2026 🌾🇲🇼

Today, SmartCare Nutrition Consultancy is excited to participate in the 22nd National Agriculture Fair 2026 at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds, Blantyre, as an incubatee of CRAFS UNIMA FIT-HUB, showcasing our locally developed Thanzi Sorghum Flour.

This year’s theme, “Transforming Agriculture through Innovation, Value Addition, and Market Linkages,” perfectly reflects our vision of turning locally available agricultural products into nutritious, innovative and market-ready food solutions.

Through Thanzi Sorghum Flour, we are demonstrating how sorghum can move beyond traditional consumption through value addition, nutrition innovation and agro-processing, while creating opportunities for farmers, young entrepreneurs and communities.

Day 1 is about learning, networking, sharing our innovation and connecting with potential customers, partners, investors and other players across the agricultural value chain.

As a CRAFS UNIMA FIT-HUB incubatee, this platform gives SmartCare Nutrition Consultancy an opportunity to showcase our innovation, receive valuable feedback and build partnerships that can contribute to the growth of Thanzi products.

Day 2 – National Youth Summit 2026 🇲🇼

Day 1 at the National Youth Summit 2026 🇲🇼

Day 1 has been an inspiring and empowering experience. I had the opportunity to connect with fellow young people, leaders, innovators, and stakeholders passionate about youth development in Malawi.

The discussions focused on reflecting on the impact of young people, sharing experiences, identifying opportunities, and exploring ways youth can contribute to Malawi’s development.

As a representative of SmartCare Nutrition Consultancy, I am excited to learn, network, share ideas, and contribute to conversations that support meaningful youth participation and the achievement of Malawi 2063.

We are excited to share that our Founder & CEO, Mr Joseph Kachiya, has been selected to participate in this year’s National Youth Summit, organized by the National Youth Council of Malawi.

This year’s theme, “Accelerating Progress: Reflecting on Impact, Expanding Prospects for Youth Development in Malawi,” provides an important platform for young leaders to share ideas, experiences, and solutions that can contribute to Malawi’s development.

Mr Kachiya will participate as a representative of SmartCare Nutrition Consultancy, a Malawi-based health and nutrition Social Enterprise committed to improving community well-being through evidence-based nutrition services and innovative food solutions. SmartCare bridges the gap between health, agriculture, nutrition, and entrepreneurship to address non-communicable diseases and promote sustainable healthy living.

We believe that developing the populace, empowering young people, and turning vision into action can change Malawi. 🇲🇼
