What is a mantra?

The word mantra comes from Sanskrit and refers to a sound, word, or phrase repeated with awareness. Through repetition, rhythm and sound, it gives the mind a steady point of focus.

Mantra chanting can be practised as a spiritual or meditative practice, without requiring religious belief.

You don't need to follow a particular religion or adopt a specific belief system. It can simply be a practice to calm the mind, steady the breath, deepen concentration and turn awareness inward.

Sometimes, we don't need to understand every word.
We simply need to experience the vibration.

The Gayatri Mantra is one of the most ancient and revered mantras, traditionally associated with clarity, wisdom and inner illumination. It is often described as the “Mother of all mantras.”

什麼是 Mantra(真言/咒語)?

Gayatri Mantra(Gayatri

Does meditaiton means we have to sit with the leg crossed and closed our eyes ?
meditation is actually a state of being, not a posture. Engaging in focused activities like journaling or mindfully copying a sutra train the mind just the same.
When we find deep focus and our mental fluctuations quiet down, we are meditating.

Many people hear the word Shiva and immediately associate it with religion or a specific belief system.

But within the yogic tradition, Shiva points to something far more universal.

Shiva is understood as pure awareness, the silent witnessing presence within each human being. The consciousness that observes thoughts, emotions, sensations, and experiences, without becoming identified with them.

It is not something external to life. It is the awareness through which life is known.

In many yogic scriptures and teachings, this is expressed in different ways. The Upanishads describe this principle as the witnessing consciousness within all beings, and non dual texts such as the Yoga Vasistha and Ashtavakra Gita repeatedly point to the recognition of pure awareness beyond the mind.

For this reason, yogic teachings express:

One who has mastered the mind becomes Shiva.

This does not refer to becoming a deity or adopting a belief system.

It points to a shift in recognition, moving from identification with the mind to the direct experience of still, unchanging awareness that is already present.

Across yogic philosophy, different terms have been used to point to the same truth: Shiva, Atman, Purusha, Consciousness, Awareness.

The name is not the destination. It is a pointer.

Within this understanding, Shiva is not about religion, but about consciousness.

Yoga at its essence does not require a change of faith.

It is an invitation to observe the mind, cultivate inner stillness, and recognize the awareness that has always been here.

That recognition is universal.

The Vedas never described God as just a person sitting in the sky....

Beyond the scheduled yoga and meditation sessions, there is the gift of space.

Space to pause.

Space to rest.

Space to simply be.

We have intentionally left room in the retreat for unstructured time, away from routines, responsibilities, and the constant pull of daily life. Time to walk along the shore, sit quietly by the ocean, read, reflect, or do absolutely nothing at all.

Often, it is in these moments of stillness that we begin to hear ourselves more clearly.

No agenda. No expectations. Just an opportunity to slow down and reconnect with what truly matters.

If this is something you have been longing for, perhaps the timing is right.

**Only one place remains available for this Maldives Retreat.**

Wellness is more than just physical health.

It is about creating space to move, breathe, rest, and reconnect with ourselves amidst the demands of daily life.

Recently, our team came together to facilitate a wellness workshop for the employees of Pfizer Kuala Lumpur.

Teacher Adrian shared practical approaches to body movement and pain management, helping participants understand how mindful movement can support better posture, reduce discomfort, and improve overall wellbeing.

Teacher Vanessa guided participants through breathwork (Pranayama), meditation (Dhyana), and Yoga Nidra, introducing simple yet powerful practices to calm the nervous system, cultivate mental clarity, and support deeper rest.

The workshop concluded with a sound healing session by Ms Sasha. The gentle sounds blended beautifully with Yoga Nidra, creating a deeply restorative experience that invited participants to let go, recharge, and experience a different quality of rest.

A special thank you to Ms Sasha for bringing this team together. It is always meaningful to collaborate with facilitators who share the same intention of helping people feel better—not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.

Together, we are proud to offer HRDF-claimable wellness programmes that bring movement, breathwork, meditation, deep relaxation, and sound healing into the workplace.

For us, the most meaningful part is witnessing people discover that sometimes a few conscious breaths, mindful movement, and deep rest can make a profound difference.

We spend so much of our lives looking.

Looking for answers.
Looking for peace.
Looking for fulfillment.

Then a deeper question arises:

What if what I am looking for is what is looking?

From the Katha Upanishad:

पराञ्चि खानि व्यतृणत् स्वयम्भूः
तस्मात् पराङ् पश्यति नान्तरात्मन्।
कश्चिद्धीरः प्रत्यगात्मानमैक्षद्
आवृत्तचक्षुरमृतत्वमिच्छन्॥

Transliteration:

Parāñci khāni vyatṛṇat svayambhūḥ
tasmāt parāṅ paśyati nāntar-ātman
kaścid dhīraḥ pratyag-ātmānam aikṣat
āvṛtta-cakṣur amṛtatvam icchan

And slowly, the gaze turns inward.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Katha Upanishad:

Transliteration:

Parāñci khāni vyatṛṇat svayambhūḥ
tasmāt parāṅ paśyati nāntar-ātman
kaścid dhīraḥ pratyag-ātmānam aikṣat
āvṛtta-cakṣur amṛtatvam icchan

Grateful to have attended the International Yoga Day 2026 event at HELP University, organised through an invitation from Celia at the Brahma Kumaris Foundation in KL.

Celia mentioned bringing along an assistant for the session, so I first invited one teacher who wasn’t available, and then invited another fellow teacher to join me.

A meaningful gathering with inspiring talks and thoughtful conversations in the wellness space.

Deep gratitude to the speakers and organisers for the experience.

We have chosen the simplicity of local island life for this Maldives Retreat, as it naturally reflects the essence of the practice itself, simple, raw, and quiet.

Here, there are no resort distractions. Just a beachfront boutique hotel, the sound of the ocean, and the steady rhythm of the tides.

Our experiences unfold with nature as the teacher: yoga on a secluded sandbank, open skies above, and quiet boat rides as the sun gently lowers into the horizon.

It is a return to the essential.

A reminder that peace is not something to be added, but something revealed when life becomes simple again.
