Why does your back still hurt when your scan says everything is fine?
It’s a question I hear regularly.
The answer is often more complicated than simply finding something on a scan.
Disc bulges, degeneration and other structural changes are common as we get older, but they don’t always correspond with pain.
That doesn’t mean your pain isn’t real.
It means we need to look beyond the spine.
Previous injuries, movement, beliefs about your body, stress, sleep, nervous-system sensitivity and your confidence in movement can all form part of the bigger picture.
I’ve recently written about this in the latest edition of the Expat magazine ( link in bio), including some of the common misconceptions I see around back pain, and why being afraid of your spine isn’t necessarily the answer.
I’ve also created a free Back Pain Reset Guide with practical strategies and simple movements you can use at home.
Comment “BACK” below and I’ll send you a copy.
And if persistent pain is affecting your training, work, travel or everyday life, a properly assessed approach can help you understand what’s going on and what you can do about it.
