💪 You can deadlift 30kg at the gym like a champion… but bend down to pick up a sock and suddenly, your back says NOPE! 🧦😩

Sounds ridiculous, right? But it happens!

Here’s something many people don’t realise: Back pain isn’t always about how heavy something is.

When you’re at the gym, you’re usually warmed up, mentally prepared and paying attention to your movements. But when you’re picking something up from the floor? You’re probably half-asleep, rushing to get ready for work or simply not thinking about how you’re moving.

And that’s where things get interesting. Your back’s response to movement can be influenced by several factors:
❤️‍🩹 Fatigue: Your muscles may be tired from previous activities.
❤️‍🩹Previous injuries: Your body may still be sensitive to certain movements.
❤️‍🩹 Sudden or unfamiliar movements: Moving differently from what you’re accustomed to may sometimes provoke discomfort.
❤️‍🩹 Stress and poor sleep: Both can influence how sensitive your body is to pain.

Here’s the surprising part: Experiencing pain during a simple movement doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve seriously damaged your back. And being physically strong doesn’t make you completely immune to back pain either!

So, the next time your back complains about something as harmless as picking up a sock, don’t automatically blame the sock. 😆

If the pain keeps returning, affects your daily activities or limits your movement, consider getting it properly assessed. Your body is more complicated than the weight you’re lifting. 💛

🦴 Your spine does more than hold you upright. And some of the things it does might surprise you!

We often don’t think about our spine until our back starts aching or our neck feels stiff.
But did you know your spine is one of the most fascinating structures in your body?
In conjunction with World Spine Day on 16 October, here are 5 fun facts worth knowing!

🦴 1. You’re actually taller in the morning!
Your spinal discs gradually lose some fluid under the pressure of daily activities. When you lie down and rest, they rehydrate, which is why you may wake up slightly taller than when you went to bed!

🦴 2. Babies have more vertebrae than adults.
Babies are born with around 33 separate vertebrae. As we grow, some fuse together, leaving most adults with 24 movable vertebrae, plus the sacrum and coccyx.

🦴 3. Your spine is designed to bend, not stay perfectly straight.
A healthy spine has natural curves that help distribute loads and absorb shock when you walk, run or jump.

So, sitting rigidly upright all day isn’t necessarily the answer. Changing positions and moving regularly matter too!

🦴 4. Your spine helps protect your body’s communication network.
Your spinal cord carries signals between your brain and much of your body, helping coordinate movement and sensation.

That’s why protecting your spinal health is about more than just avoiding back pain.

🦴 5. Your spine has its own built-in shock absorbers.
Between most of your vertebrae are intervertebral discs that help distribute forces and allow your spine to move.

Pretty impressive for something we rarely think about, isn’t it? 😲

💛 This World Spine Day, give your spine a little appreciation. Move regularly, stay active, build strength and pay attention to persistent discomfort or changes in how you move.
Your spine supports you every single day. It’s time to return the favour!

Still riding the F1 fever? 🏎️ 🔥

After all the excitement from the Bahrain GP at Sepang, and with the Singapore GP coming up this weekend, we thought we’d look at F1 from a different angle…

Have you ever noticed how F1 drivers actually sit in the cockpit? 👀

They can spend almost 2 hours in a deeply reclined position, with their hips extremely low and legs raised.

It doesn’t exactly look like “good posture”, does it? 🤔

But here’s what makes the difference.

An F1 seat is moulded specifically to support the driver’s body. Their neck and core are highly conditioned, and despite being strapped into a tiny cockpit, their muscles are constantly working against braking, cornering forces and vibration.

Meanwhile, many of us spend hours at a desk barely changing position.

💡 The lesson? Good posture isn’t simply about sitting perfectly straight.

Your body also needs movement, adequate support and the strength to maintain a position comfortably.

So while we’re in F1 mode, take a cue from the drivers:
🏁 Change position regularly
🏁 Get up and move between long periods of sitting
🏁 Stretch your neck, shoulders, hips and back
🏁 Don’t ignore recurring stiffness, numbness or pain

You might not be pulling 5G around a corner, but sitting through an 8-hour workday can be its own endurance race. 😉

🚗 You wouldn’t drive your car for years without servicing it. So why do we expect our bodies to keep going without paying attention to the warning signs?

A strange noise from the engine? We get it checked.

A warning light appears? We want to know why.

But when it’s our body…
“My back always hurts after sitting.”
“My neck doesn’t turn as far as it used to.”
“My shoulder has been tight for months.”
“My knee just does that now.”

We often learn to live with it. 😅

As we get older, some changes are normal, but recurring pain, persistent stiffness or noticeable changes in how you move shouldn’t automatically be dismissed as “just age”.

Think of a body check-in as simply paying attention to how you’re functioning. Are you moving comfortably? Has your mobility changed? Is the same discomfort returning again and again?

And just like maintaining a car, looking after your body isn’t only something you do when something goes wrong. Regular movement, strength training, adequate recovery and addressing persistent musculoskeletal concerns early can all be part of keeping yourself active.

After all, you can replace your car. You only get one body. 💛

✋ Wrist pain? Don’t just focus on where it hurts. Ask where it’s coming from.

It’s easy to blame wrist pain on too much typing, scrolling, lifting or sports. But pain in the same area can come from very different structures, and that can change how it should be managed.

Pay attention to the clues your body is giving you. Is there tingling? Numbness? Tenderness? Does it hurt with a particular movement or grip?

📍 Where you feel the pain, and what triggers it, can tell you a lot.

Use the graphic above as a quick guide, and if the discomfort persists or keeps returning, consider getting it properly assessed.

“My back hurts” is a start, but where and how it hurts can tell us much more. 👀

Disc problems can range from normal age-related changes to bulging or herniated discs, and the symptoms may feel very different from person to person.

🤔 Take a minute to look through this chart and familiarise yourself with the different spinal disc conditions. More importantly, pay attention to what your body is telling you.

When speaking to your chiropractor or healthcare practitioner, try to describe where the pain starts, whether it travels, what it feels like (sharp, aching, burning, tingling), what movements trigger it, and whether you notice numbness or weakness. These details can help your practitioner assess your symptoms more accurately and determine what may be causing them.

💡 The better you can describe your pain, the better we can understand what your body is trying to tell you.

This infographic is for general awareness only. Symptoms alone cannot confirm a disc condition, and proper assessment may be needed for diagnosis.

🗓️ 8 months of 2026 have already gone by…how is your body doing?

Remember those New Year plans to exercise more, sit less, stretch regularly and take better care of yourself? 😅

September is a good time for a little body check-in.

🤔 Can you turn your neck comfortably in both directions?
🤔 Can you bend down without feeling unusually stiff?
🤔 Are your shoulders constantly tight after work?
🤔 Does the same back pain keep disappearing…then coming back again?
🤔 Have you stopped doing certain activities because something always hurts afterwards?

Sometimes we adapt to discomfort for so long that it starts feeling “normal”.

Use September as your reminder to move a little more, stretch regularly, build strength and pay attention to symptoms that keep returning.

You still have 4 months left in 2026. Don’t wait until January to start taking better care of your body 💛

🤰 Pregnancy is an incredible journey, but it also places extra demands on your body.

As your baby grows, your centre of gravity shifts, your ligaments become more flexible, and your pelvis adapts to prepare for birth. It’s common for mums-to-be to experience back pain, pelvic discomfort, hip pain, or sciatica along the way.

The good news? Chiropractic care is a safe and gentle option for many expectant mums when provided by a qualified chiropractor.

At The One Chiropractic, our pregnancy care is specially tailored for mums-to-be, using gentle techniques and pregnancy-specific equipment to keep both mum and baby comfortable throughout each visit.

💛 Dr Michelle Tan and Dr Shar-Lynn Hooi are both Webster Certified, meaning they have completed additional training in the Webster Technique, a specialised chiropractic approach for pregnancy.

This technique focuses on improving the balance and function of the pelvis, sacrum, and surrounding muscles and ligaments to support a more comfortable pregnancy. By promoting optimal pelvic function, it may help provide the best possible environment for your growing baby while helping mums move and feel more comfortably throughout each stage of pregnancy.

Every pregnancy is different, so care is always tailored to your individual needs. If you have a high-risk pregnancy or specific medical concerns, we recommend discussing chiropractic care with your obstetrician or healthcare provider.

💕 Because when mum feels more comfortable, she can spend less time worrying about aches and pains, and more time enjoying every precious kick and milestone before meeting her little one.

🤔 Chiropractic: Fact or Fiction?

If you’ve been thinking about seeing a chiropractor, chances are you’ve heard at least one of these before…
❌ “The cracking sound means your bones are going back into place.”
❌ “Once you start, you’ll need treatment forever.”
❌ “Chiropractic is only for back pain.”
❌ “It’s only for adults.”

The truth is, many of these are common misconceptions.

💥 The ‘crack’ isn’t bones moving back into place.
The popping sound is simply gas being released from the joint, similar to opening a fizzy drink. It’s called cavitation and is completely normal.

🩺 Care is tailored to your needs.
Some people only need a few visits after an injury, while others choose ongoing care to help maintain mobility and support an active lifestyle. It’s always your choice.
🏃 It’s about more than just back pain.
Chiropractors commonly assess conditions involving the spine, neck, joints, muscles, posture, movement, and certain nerve-related symptoms.
👶 People of many ages may benefit.
From growing children and office workers to athletes and older adults, care is adapted to each person’s age, condition, and health history.
💡 The best way to separate myths from facts is to ask questions and get information from qualified healthcare professionals.

Have you heard any of these myths before? Which one surprised you the most?
