Sickle Cell Disease is a genetic condition, but I believe our approach to managing it involves more than understanding the genetic cause alone.

At the Brain and Body Foundation, we have spent years working with children living with Sickle Cell Disease and exploring how different aspects of their physiology and biochemistry can be supported.

Our approach focuses on four key areas:
1. Immune function.
2. Oxidative stress.
3. Inflammation.
4. Nitric oxide production.

I call these the “Four Horsemen” of our approach.

Our goal is to help families better understand Sickle Cell Disease and explore practical ways to support the overall health and wellbeing of children living with the condition.

As we continue our World Sickle Cell Month activities, we are creating more opportunities to support children and families living with Sickle Cell Disease.

In this testimonial, an 11-year-old’s caregiver shares their experience after attending our clinic several times and the changes they’ve noticed along the way.

Every child’s Sickle Cell journey is different, but consistent care, monitoring, support, and access to the right resources can make a meaningful difference in how families navigate the condition.

Brain damage happens gradually over time, so protecting your mind requires daily, sustainable habits.

Start with these simple habits you can actually maintain:

1. Exercise: Walk at least 30 minutes, 3 times a week, to keep blood flowing.

2. Read: Engage in regular reading to keep your mind active.

3. Cut Processed Foods: Avoid fried and ultra-processed foods loaded with toxic fats, especially if you're over 30 or 40.

Small habits today = a sharp mind tomorrow!
