Let me tell you a story. A story about a woman who desperately wanted to become a mother, but getting pregnant wasn't as easy as she had imagined.
Imagine trying month after month, hoping to see those two lines on a pregnancy test, only to be disappointed repeatedly.
She decided to seek medical help. One test led to another. Different investigations were carried out, and then came the news about her low progesterone level.
Progesterone is a hormone that plays an important role in preparing the uterus for pregnancy and supporting early pregnancy.
She went through a series of tests, hoping to find answers and finally hold her own baby.
Then, one day, something beautiful happened! 🤰
She became pregnant!
The joy, the excitement, the hope—finally, she was going to be a mother!
But sadly, that pregnancy ended in miscarriage. 💔
She had to undergo a uterine evacuation, a procedure used to remove pregnancy tissue remaining in the uterus after a pregnancy loss.
If you have ever experienced a miscarriage, you may understand the emotional pain that comes with losing a pregnancy you had prayed and waited for.
But her story didn't end there.
She became pregnant again!
Unfortunately, she experienced another miscarriage.
Imagine going through the struggle of getting pregnant, the excitement of finally conceiving, and then the heartbreak of losing the pregnancy—not once, but twice.
This story was my reality before I became a mother of two beautiful kids. Infertility and pregnancy loss are real reproductive health challenges, and women experiencing them deserve medical care, understanding and compassion, not judgment.
🩺 SO, WHAT CAN CAUSE INFERTILITY?
There are several possible causes, including:
1️⃣ Ovulation problems
2️⃣ Hormonal problems
3️⃣ Low progesterone
4️⃣ Blocked fallopian tubes
5️⃣ Endometriosis
6️⃣ Male-factor infertility
7️⃣ Age-related changes
8️⃣ Uterine abnormalities
If you have been trying to conceive for 12 months without success—or for 6 months if you are 35 or older—seek a fertility assessment. Earlier evaluation is appropriate if you have irregular periods, known reproductive problems or other risk factors.
MY MESSAGE TO EVERY WOMAN TRYING TO CONCEIVE:
Please, don't suffer in silence. Don't assume that you are the problem, and don't allow anybody to make you feel less of a woman because you haven't conceived.
Seek medical help. Ask questions. Get the right investigations. And remember that fertility challenges are not exclusively a woman's responsibility.
