What does a malaria test actually tell you?

Malaria testing helps determine whether malaria parasites are detected in the sample.

But interpreting the result requires context.

A positive result must be considered alongside the person's symptoms and clinical history.

If the test is negative and the person remains unwell, a healthcare professional may need to investigate other causes.

Also, severe symptoms require urgent medical attention.

Not every health problem announces itself early.

For example, type 2 diabetes may develop without obvious symptoms.

Blood glucose testing can help identify diabetes or prediabetes.

However, not everybody needs the same testing schedule. Your risk factors, age and medical history matter.

The goal isn't to frighten you into doing every available test.

It's to help you understand when testing may be appropriate.

Don't test because you're afraid. Test when there's a good reason to investigate or screen.
