OOUTH FOOD SERVICES DEPARTMENT COMMEMORATES WORLD FOOD DAY 2026

The Food Services Department of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, joined the global community in commemorating World Food Day 2026 under the theme, “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow,” highlighting the importance of innovation in nutrition, food security and sustainable food systems.

Addressing patients and participants during the programme, the Head of the Food Services Department, Mr. Jamiu Ojabello, emphasised the need to promote healthy eating habits and raise public awareness of the vital connection between good nutrition and overall well-being.

Speaking on behalf of the Management, the Acting Director of Administration, Mrs. Moji Osinloye, noted that a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains is more than a source of energy; it is fundamental to healthy living. She further stressed that protein and other essential nutrients play important roles in strengthening the immune system and supporting growth and development.

The programme featured health talks and the distribution of free meals, drinking water and fruits to participants, reinforcing the importance of healthy eating and access to nutritious food.

As OOUTH joins the global campaign for improved nutrition and food security, the Hospital reaffirms the importance of promoting healthier dietary choices and supporting sustainable food systems for a healthier population.

Together, let us innovate today for a healthier and better-nourished tomorrow.

OOUTH MANAGEMENT STRONGLY CONDEMNS ASSAULT AND INTIMIDATION OF STAFF, EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH NANNM OOUTH AND ALL STAFF

The Management of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, strongly condemns the unacceptable conduct of some patient relatives who, in the course of grieving, resort to aggression, intimidation, and actions that threaten the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of healthcare personnel.

While the Management deeply sympathises with families experiencing the pain of losing a loved one, grief and emotional distress must never be used to justify violence, harassment, or abuse of healthcare workers who are committed to providing compassionate care, often under challenging circumstances.

The Management stands firmly and unequivocally with the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), OOUTH Chapter, and all members of staff. The safety, dignity, and welfare of our workforce remain paramount, and no staff member should be subjected to violence, intimidation, or humiliation while discharging their professional responsibilities.

The Management wishes to assure all staff that proactive measures have been put in place since midnight to address the situation, safeguard personnel, restore and maintain order, and prevent further escalation. Appropriate actions are ongoing to uphold the dignity of our staff, strengthen security, and ensure a safe working environment for everyone within the hospital premises.

OOUTH recognises that healthcare delivery requires mutual respect, trust, and cooperation between healthcare professionals, patients, and their relatives. While we remain committed to providing quality and compassionate services to all patients, we equally maintain that the protection of healthcare workers is essential to effective and uninterrupted service delivery.

The Management therefore appeals to members of the public to remain calm, exercise restraint, and respect hospital protocols, even in moments of grief and emotional distress. All complaints and concerns should be channelled through the appropriate hospital authorities rather than expressed through confrontation, threats, or violence.

The Management remains committed to taking all necessary and appropriate steps to protect staff, patients, and visitors, while ensuring that the hospital continues to fulfil its mandate of providing quality healthcare services.

Let it be clearly understood that grief deserves compassion, but violence against healthcare workers is unacceptable. The dignity of our staff must be respected, and their safety will remain a priority.

OOUTH Management reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with NANNM OOUTH and the entire workforce and assures all staff that their concerns are receiving appropriate attention and that necessary actions are ongoing to safeguard their welfare and professional dignity.

Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwabunmi M. Fatungase

Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun State, played host to The Gbadebo Foundation for Grace and Restoration during a philanthropic maternal outreach held within the hospital on Tuesday, 13th October 2026.

Upon their arrival, the Foundation’s representatives were received by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwabunmi Fatungase, who expressed her sincere appreciation for the Foundation’s kind gesture and commitment to supporting maternal and newborn health. She also assured the Foundation of the hospital’s support and willingness to collaborate on subsequent philanthropic initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of patients and the communities it serves.

The outreach focused on providing essential maternal and newborn supplies to expectant mothers receiving care at OOUTH, alongside sponsorship support for eligible mothers facing financial challenges with prenatal care, delivery expenses and immediate postnatal needs.

The initiative is a commendable demonstration of compassion and social responsibility, with the potential to ease the financial burden on vulnerable families, improve access to essential maternal care and promote healthier outcomes for mothers and their newborns. Beyond the material support, the gesture offers encouragement and hope to expectant mothers, reminding them that their well-being and that of their babies matter to the wider community.

OOUTH warmly appreciates the Founder/President, Mr. Solomon Gbadebo, and the entire team of The Gbadebo Foundation for Grace and Restoration for their generosity, partnership and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of mothers and children.

The hospital looks forward to sustaining this cordial relationship and welcoming further initiatives that advance maternal and newborn welfare.

Together, we can promote safer motherhood, healthier newborns and a stronger healthcare system.
