When did life become so serious?

I've been thinking about how easy it is to become so focused on our responsibilities, our goals and everything that needs our attention that we forget to make room for the experiences that make us feel alive.

And I'm not talking about pretending life is wonderful when it's hard.

I'm talking about those moments when we laugh until our stomachs hurt. When curiosity takes us somewhere unexpected. When we try something new, get a little silly, change our minds, or allow ourselves to enjoy something without needing a reason.

Joy doesn't require a perfect life.

Sometimes it emerges in the middle of uncertainty, transition and the messy business of being human.

And sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to experience it.

What might become possible if we made a little more room for play, curiosity and wonder?

This is part of what I'll be exploring in my upcoming session, **Joy Wasn't Lost: Reconnecting With the Part of You That Knows How to Feel Alive**, at *From Lost to Legendary: Chapter 2*.

It's a free, three-day virtual gathering exploring authenticity, playfulness, wonder and the choices that help us create lives that feel more genuinely ours.

**October 20–22, 2026 | 11 AM–3 PM Eastern**

My session is Wednesday, October 21, at 1:30 PM Eastern.

I'd love for you to join us.

When life is difficult, getting through the day can be a worthy goal. And when there is enough space, another question can become available: what is this experience helping me notice, understand, or choose differently? You do not have to force a lesson. Curiosity is enough.

I'm excited to share that I'll be speaking at **From Lost to Legendary: Chapter 2 — A Quest for Joy, Magic, and Your True Power!** ✨

And I have to say, I love the theme of this gathering.

Somewhere along the way, between responsibilities, expectations, navigating life's challenges and taking care of everyone and everything around us, it's easy to lose touch with some of the things that make life feel meaningful and alive.

Our curiosity. Our playfulness. Our sense of wonder. The freedom to explore what brings us joy, without needing to justify it or turn it into something productive.

But what if those parts of ourselves aren't lost at all?

What if they're still there, waiting for us to reconnect?

That's the conversation I'll be bringing to this gathering in my session, **Joy Wasn't Lost: Reconnecting With the Part of You That Knows How to Feel Alive.**

We'll explore what it means to reconnect with ourselves, make room for joy and remember that living fully involves more than meeting our responsibilities and getting through the day.

I'll be joining a wonderful collection of speakers for three days of conversations about authenticity, playfulness, wonder, personal agency and the choices that shape our lives.

And yes, there's even a little magic woven into the experience. ✨

**From Lost to Legendary: Chapter 2** is a FREE virtual event happening October 20–22, from 11 AM–3 PM Eastern each day.

I'll be speaking **Wednesday, October 21, at 1:30 PM Eastern**, during the day dedicated to Playfulness & Wonder.

I'd love to have you join us!

Thanksgiving often invites us to name what we’re grateful for.

This year, I’m also thinking about what I have allowed myself to receive.

I recently spent time with people who welcomed me, supported me, shared their space with me, and reminded me how nourishing it can be to let others contribute to my life. I didn’t have to organize everything, carry everything, or be the person making the experience possible for everyone else.

For those of us accustomed to being capable, dependable, and available, receiving can feel more vulnerable than giving. It asks us to loosen our grip, allow ourselves to have needs, and trust that accepting support does not diminish our strength.

Receiving is not the opposite of contributing. Both are part of being in relationship.

This Thanksgiving, alongside everything you appreciate, consider asking:

What have I allowed myself to receive this year?

And what support might become available if I didn’t insist on carrying everything alone?

This year’s World Mental Health Day theme is **Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.**

Being heard is not the same as being fixed.

When someone shares what they are experiencing, our instinct may be to offer advice, search for solutions, reassure them, or tell them what worked for us.

But meaningful support often begins earlier than that.

It begins with listening long enough to understand the person’s experience. Believing that what they are describing matters. Asking what kind of support they want. Recognizing that they remain the authority on their own life, even when they need professional care, community, resources, or help making decisions.

Lived experience is not a replacement for clinical expertise. Clinical expertise should not erase lived experience, either.

Mental health is shaped by far more than individual effort. Safety, access to care, money, work, housing, relationships, culture, community, discrimination, and the ability to be heard all influence what support is available and what change is possible.

We cannot listen our way out of every mental health challenge. But listening can change whether someone feels dismissed or respected, isolated or accompanied, spoken about or included in decisions affecting their life.

Real change begins when lived experience is not treated as an inconvenience to the conversation, but as essential knowledge within it.

Today, consider asking someone:

**Do you want me to listen, help you think this through, or help you find support?**

Then let their answer guide what happens next.

There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from trying many things and still feeling as though you are not where you want to be.

You may have read the books, listened to the podcasts, changed your routines, asked for support, reflected on your patterns, and made choices that required courage. Some things helped for a while. Others taught you what did not fit. A few may have created meaningful change without resolving everything you hoped they would.

When the result is not as complete or lasting as you wanted, it can be tempting to look back at the entire journey as evidence that you have failed.

But trying many things is not proof of failure. It is evidence that you have been gathering information about yourself, your needs, your circumstances, and what supports change in your real life.

Not every effort produces the outcome we want, but that does not make the effort meaningless. Sometimes progress begins with recognizing that you are not starting from the same place you once were, even if you have not yet reached where you want to go.

What have you tried that may not have “worked” as expected but still taught you something important?

06/10/2026

Sometimes exhaustion comes from having too much to do. Sometimes it comes from spending too much of ourselves on things that no longer fit. Rest matters in both cases, but alignment may require a deeper change. Is your tiredness asking for recovery, reconsideration, or both?

October 1 is the International Day of Older Persons—a day to recognize the wisdom, resilience, contributions, and lived experience of older people around the world.

It is also an opportunity to challenge the belief that growing older should mean becoming less visible, less relevant, or less able to shape the direction of your own life.

There is no age at which someone stops deserving meaningful choices, new experiences, supportive relationships, respectful care, or the freedom to change direction.

Aging is not one universal experience. What should remain constant is agency.

May we create communities where people are seen, heard, valued, and supported in choosing what wellness and fulfillment mean for them throughout their whole lives.

Today, I join Canadians in observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

I honour the Survivors of Canada’s residential school system, their families and communities, and the children who never returned home.

Reconciliation requires more than remembrance on one day. It asks us to continue learning the truth of Canada’s history, listen to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis voices, understand the harms that continue across generations, and recognize the responsibilities we carry moving forward.

Living outside Canada does not remove my responsibility to remain engaged with that truth.

Today is a day to listen, learn, remember, and reflect.

Every Child Matters.

Guidance can be valuable, but no expert can live inside your body, values, history, and circumstances. The goal is not to stop receiving support; it is to use support in a way that strengthens your relationship with your own knowing. What helps you hear yourself more clearly?
