Looking back on a great weekend, where we were pleased to host the 2026 graduation exhibition of the Studio for Immediate Spaces Master’s programme at the Sandberg Instituut.

Over the past month, CareDesignLab and Het Slotervaart collaborated to support the organisation of the exhibition, showing spatial practitioners working across art, design and architecture.

Set within the evolving context of Het Slotervaart, the exhibition invited visitors to engage with projects exploring spatial practice, care, transformation, and collective futures.

We warmly congratulate all graduates on this important step and thank them for sharing their thoughtful and ambitious work. It was a pleasure to welcome many visitors and to contribute to this year’s graduation exhibition.

The show was featured by Dutch Design Daily.

Meet our resident: Alexander Petrounine Alexander Petrounine

Alexander Petrounine is an architectural designer, currently based in Amsterdam (NL). He has an extensive experience working across scales in the field of architecture, urban design and urban planning in The Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Slovenia, North-Macedonia, Luxembourg, Hong Kong and Colombia.

He graduated in Architecture, Urbanism and The Built Environment in 2019 from the Delft University of Technology. During and after his studies, he has been actively involved in practice, working on numerous international projects; collaborating directly with sole practitioners, as well as working in larger offices. During his spare time he participates in several design competitions both collectively and individually.

Alexander’s focus within design has been related to the investigation of the public realm within complex urban contexts. Through Richard Sennett’s Fall of the Public Man, and Peter Brook’s The Empty Space, his work is framed around the theatrical relationship between actors and spectators within the city - because of this he formed a growing fascination for public spatial interventions that deal with notions such as temporality and phenomenology.

Meet our resident: Anna Underowicz

Anna Underowicz is an architect and artist from Katowice, based in Amsterdam.

In her practice, she explores the patterns hidden within chaos and the relationship between human-made structures and natural environments. Alongside her architectural practice NOWOMOWA, founded with Alexander Petrounine in 2022, she develops large-scale, site-specific installations that combine visual art, sound, and performance. Her experiments with materials have also led to a sculptural furniture collection.

Drawing inspiration from the edge between anthropological systems and the wild, her work investigates forms of coexistence, interdependence, and transformation.

A devoted pigeon lover, she sees pigeons as a symbol of the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature. In 2026, she will present Common Heartbeat, a multidisciplinary sound installation, at the SURVIVAL Art Festival in Wrocław.

Meet our resident: Co-Formations

Co-Formations is a collaborative design duo composed of Theo Colin (Scotland) and Héloïse Floc’h (France). Working across scales and disciplines, their practice focuses on context-specific projects through a socially engaged design approach that ranges from object design to public space interventions. Their work is strongly informed by site-based, testimonial, and archival research, and they often position themselves as facilitators of conversations connected to particular places and communities.

As deeply collaborative designers, they primarily work on a project basis. Previous themes and projects have explored memory and dementia, mobile cooking, public space activation, seating scenography for arts festivals, and post-industrial rehabilitation.

《Hole and Trace》
How do fragmented personal and collective memories shape our understanding of identity and history?
Hole and Trace examines how memories that are shaped by cultural forces—both individual and shared—are constructed, preserved, and mobilised. This question unites the artists, each of whom explores how memory—through both its presence and absence—impacts our understanding of history and identity.
