My name is Kevin Tromp. Nutrition and mindset coach. I help people with cravings—
Wait, no.
A more vulnerable truth.
I’ve always wanted to help people with their cravings, because it was something I myself struggled with. So I—
No, I should go further back.
Suffering.
From a very young age, I developed self-esteem issues because of my relationship with food.
This brought me a lot of suffering. The thing about suffering is, it’s human nature to seek to solve it with pleasure. My vice was comfort food. But modern psychology and ancient religions both agree that pleasure-seeking increases your suffering.
So as I sought out pleasure, I suffered more. Isn’t that great?
No, I’m not being sarcastic. Why would you think— oh, should I rewind just a little bit?
Yeah, so I suffered more. But believe it or not, I’m happy for my suffering. I’m happy BECAUSE of my suffering. Suffering is fertile soil for happiness. For kindness. For understanding. For forgiveness. We cannot experience these things if we do not know suffering first.
Cool fact: compassion comes from the Latin word “compati”, which literally means “to suffer with” [others].
So I suffered more. Isn’t that great?
Suffering is not the opposite of happiness. Suffering is the fertile soil in which happiness grows. Instead of trying to cover it up, we should let the sun shine on that suffering.
I used to feel alone in my suffering. I think most of us do. But if my journey as a coach has taught me anything, it’s that suffering is universal. When we share our stories, we get to suffer with each other. “Suffer with”. There it is again.
Compassion.
When we see someone who is truly happy, we have a tendency to assume they don’t know suffering. But if you were to dig deeper, you'd see that it’s exactly these people who truly understand the true depth of their own suffering. It takes this understanding of suffering to achieve happiness.
Cravings Mastery is a framework that teaches people to transform their own suffering into happiness. You exchange pleasure for happiness.
