studio Thier & van Daalen | product, light and accessory design Studio Thier&VanDaalen wordt gevormd door Iris van Daalen (1985) en Ruben Thier (1987).

Beide afgestudeerd aan de Design Academy Eindhoven in 2010. Het startpunt voor hun design is de schijnbare tegen strijdigheid tussen rationaliteit en intuïtie. Ze delen beide een
fascinatie voor de vergankelijkheid en schoonheid uit de natuur. De ontwerpen van Studio Thier&VanDaalen creëren graag een ruimtelijk spel, waarbij de ontwerpen een connectie aangaan met de ruimte waarin ze staan. ⭕️🌸📣Immersed in colour. Our latest creation, the Bloom Chandelier, now on view
PAN Amsterdam, presented by The Frozen Fountain, booth 137.

Three glass rondels come together to form a three-dimensional palette of shapes and colours, unfolding like a flower in bloom.

The making process follows this same movement. A blown glass bubble opens up and transforms into three flat discs, brought together and illuminated by a sculptural brass structure.

A classical look meets contemporary LED technology and the centuries-old craft of glassblowing.

From every angle, beautiful colour blends, reflections and plays of light reveal themselves.

Conceived in collaboration with The Frozen Fountain.

🍊🥃 Orange Crush 🌶️ Colour, and the endless possibilities of how colours meet, blend and transform.

We keep exploring new combinations, never quite knowing how they will come together until the glass takes shape. Every new colour experiment is a little surprise, a moment of discovery.

I think this piece turned out beautifully. What do you think?

After more than 10 years, The Plastic Mine is coming to an end 👋🏻👋🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Last week we were really pushing hard to create this mesmerising final collection from all the stock we still have 😅😅

It’s the end of an era for The Plastic Mine, where we had so much fun turning overproduction plastic ‘waste’ into interior beauties 🐠🥒🍥🍭🧠

But why stop?
We are shifting our focus towards our growing lighting collection, and the factory we have been collaborating with is closing its production site in the Netherlands.

We have loved making The Plastic Mine and we are proud of what we created together with the beautiful collaborations along the way 🫶🏻 But it feels like the right time to focus more on light, materials and creating new designs. It is exciting and we are really looking forward to what is next 💡🌱

Want to know more about our new focus? Come visit us during Dutch Design Week | DDW 17–25 October, and experience our products and lighting in our studio space Sectie-C We’re also celebrating 15 years of studio Thier & van Daalen, so there is plenty to celebrate!

We love sharing the drive behind our work: the concept, the fascination, and the process that brings each piece to life.

Glass is one of those endless fascinations. At the same time, it’s a material we sometimes have a love-hate relationship with. It asks for patience, precision, and a willingness to let go. No matter how much experience you have, you never have complete control. And perhaps that’s exactly what makes it so intriguing, vulnerable, and beautiful.

Glass is a material that can last for generations. Its transparency, depth, and endless play of colour continue to amaze us every single time.

If you’re curious to see what we’re working on, or would like to discover the pieces we’ve created, you’re very welcome to visit our studio.
