What's the trick to growing S.D.? Lots of light but NO UV light.
They love light, but hate UV. Their natural habitat is under the Canopy of the mexican rainforest. The Canopy usually filters out the UV while the intense mexican sun still lets through a lot of (Diffused) light. Some growlights have extra UV in them because certain other plants which are often placed under growlights are adjusted to growing in the direct full sun and therefor to getting exposed to UV, whereas these S.D. are used to having the UV filtered out by the canopy above
If you have single-glass windows, the UV gets through. If you have more modern windows with 2 or 3 pieces of glass for insulation, then the UV doesn't get through. With Modern windows, you can best put them in a south facing window to expose them to as much sun as possible. With the older windows, its best to put them a little bit away from the window so they don't get too much direct UV
If you want to use a growlight, make sure its one without added UV
Hope this helps
