Mid-life-crisis?
As a child I loved reading, every night before bed as a pre-teen you would find me reading the latest goosebumps books. Even though I'd sometimes be sweating under the covers with my heart racing as I imagined the characters and twists and turns the books portrayed, I continued to chase the thrill the books would give. As reading faded in my teen years, I lost the essence of what reading meant to me. Fast forward into my 20s and I began to appreciate reading and studying as a young missionary and then as a full time university student (pre-A.I, so I actually had to read).
As I now hit my mid-thirties, I find myself being drawn to reading again, but this time in search of becoming a better version of myself. Intentionally trying to stop the usual doom scroll, and replacing it with reading and studying, in the hopes of becoming a better version of myself. The excitement and thrill I felt as a child has returned, but as an adult it has returned to serve a different purpose. To learn, to nurture, to grow, to change and to become who I want to be. So here I am, teetering on the edge of 34, almost hitting the mid-life mark, hoping that this renewed love for reading, isn't a part of my mid-life-crisis, but a part of my mid-life-transformation.
