Isla's Road to Recovery Diagnosed with breast cancer 32 weeks pregnant. This is my story and a call for others to get checked

08/10/2026

October 8th is a special day for me. It was the last day of my active treatment, and it was also Freddie’s due date.

t’s incredible to look back and see just how far we have come. Freddie endured one round of chemotherapy with me while I was pregnant with him, and just over a year later, he was there again for my final round of treatment, supporting Mummy every step of the way.

Ringing that bell was such a special moment for me, and for so many others facing cancer. But I also know that many people never get the chance to ring that bell, including my beautiful mother-in-law, Deb.

October brings with it so many emotions but above all, I think the most important one is love.

Love for the people who carried me through the hardest days. Love for the people we have lost. Love for the life we have today. And love for the little boy who has been beside me through it all.

This week I wanted to share the importance of exercise post cancer.

During treatment i was very fortunate enough to participate in a program at Barwon Health known then as the Sunrise Program. It was such an important part of my healing even though i didn't fully take that in at the time. Three years on, I am slowly working on myself to get fit, gain strength and hopefully just have a bit more energy.

RUN4GEELONG has been something i wanted to do and now i feel more prepared to be able to achieve a 5km run alongside my husband Trevor and raise money for the Barwon Health Foundation

I will pop the link in my bio and in comments, if you wish to donate. 🥰

Three years ago, I just wanted to try save others by sharing my story and encouraging people to get
checked especially while pregnant.

I feel so honoured to be a proud Ambassador in my local community of Geelong. Its been an incredible week and I truly appreciate that I have been able to make a difference.

Much love ❤️
Isla

I have been a little busy this week.

This morning I was interviewed by my local radio station K rock 95.5 about the importance of breast checks and raising awareness during this month.

I am so thankful for National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) for letting me represent the organisation in my local Geelong Community.

One in two underestimate how many Australians die from breast cancer each day. Research remains critical in improving outcomes and saving lives.

I am 1 in 7.

Today is the start of breast cancer awareness month and a very important opportunity to raise awareness and get behind organisations that support Breast cancer.

I never thought i would hear the words "You have cancer" especially while I was pregnant but from my experience I am determined to help others any way I can.

Thank you National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) for the work that you do towards the vision of having zero deaths from breast cancer.

And to Australia’s only young women’s breast cancer charity for supporting young women through navigating motherhood and cancer.

Sending love to all the breast cancer community this month 💗

Smiles all around. 😁

Today I got the news I’ve been hoping and praying for… no cancer. Yay!

This day comes with so many emotions, but the biggest one is simply happiness. I’m so incredibly grateful and relieved right now.

It feels like I can finally put another chapter of this cancer journey behind me and take a deep breath.

Reflecting back.

Chemotherapy can be a very overwhelming experience for many. Especially when you seem to be the youngest patient in the room.

When I was completing a Chemotherapy session, I was allowed to have a support person each time. I appreciated this because it was actually a great time to have a chat with my close friends and family members without having to rush off to pick up kids or be elsewhere.

I also really enjoyed having a bit of a laugh so looking back at this one it was great to see my Scottish heritage on show.

Thanks again to my amazing friend Amy Ray ay and cousin Rosemary Quarantotto on this particular day 🥰 and your ongoing support.

Very important part of my journey 🥰

Very important part of my journey 🥰

No one ever imagines they'll be the one sitting in these chairs.

For local patients at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre, they're a place of comfort and care during an overwhelming time.

This week i finally decided to try some of the antidepressants recommended by my Oncologist and GP

Mental Health is so important to me and I recognise that sometimes I am really overwhelmed and find it hard to cope. So I knew trying an antidepressant could hopefully benefit me and relieve some of my anxiety and calm down my brain.

Unfortunately it didn't quite work out but I am proud of myself for trying and know i will find something that works for me.
