What a great evening at the AUWS - Auckland University Women in Science Careers Night!

As a Gold Sponsor, we were delighted to support this event and connect with students exploring their future career paths. Sophia Khan, ACTT Research Assistant, took the stage to share more about our company, the work we do, and the diverse opportunities available for graduates within the clinical research sector.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with Sophia and Esther. We were inspired by the curiosity, enthusiasm, and ambition of the students we met.

We're excited to play a part in supporting the next generation of research professionals.

The SCRS Site Solutions Summit ANZ was a fantastic opportunity to connect, collaborate, and share ideas with leaders from across the clinical research community.

We're especially proud of Esther Ji, who joined discussion exploring digital technologies and AI are shaping the future of clinical trials. From streamlining operational processes to strengthening research capabilities, the conversation highlighted the potential of technology to drive greater efficiency, improve participant experiences, and support better outcomes across the clinical trial ecosystem.

The summit also provided valuable opportunities to connect with sponsors and showcase New Zealand's strengths as a clinical trial destination. By highlighting our experienced research teams, expertise, diverse participant populations, and commitment to high-quality patient-centred research, we're helping attract more clinical trial opportunities to Aotearoa and expanding access to innovative treatments for all New Zealanders.

Thank you to SCRS for bringing together such a collaborative and forward-thinking community. Events like these play an important role in shaping the future of clinical research and strengthening partnerships across the sector.

We are happy to have supported Middlemore Hospital's (Health NZ - Counties Manukau ) contributions to the SNaPP trial (Sugammadex, Neostigmine, and Postoperative Pulmonary complications)- a large, international, multicentre randomised controlled trial involving researchers from The University of Melbourne and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.

Results from the trial, published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, help to fill an evidence-gap surrounding the effectiveness of the muscle relaxant reversal agent sugammadex.

The trial showed that in adults undergoing major surgery, sugammadex was associated with a small reduction in the incidence of postoperative lung complications compared with neostigmine.

The research team at Middlemore Hospital, led by investigator Dr Julian Dimech and coordinated by Samantha Ryan, recruited a quarter of the NZ participants, supporting the rapid completion of the trial and helping to advance evidence-based practice in anaesthesia and perioperative care.

Last Thursday, our teams from the Middlemore and Whangārei sites came together for our Development Day - a valuable opportunity to connect, reflect, and align on our shared vision for the future.

The day focused on the outcomes we’re working towards - both as an organisation and as individuals. It was inspiring to bring together diverse perspectives, strengthen cross-site connections, and explore how we can continue to grow and deliver meaningful impact through our work.

We were especially grateful to have Professor Richard Beasley, Director and Founder of Medical Research Institute of New Zealand (.ac.nz), join us as a guest speaker. His insights into the translation between clinical trials and public health were both engaging and thought-provoking, highlighting the important role research plays in improving real-world health outcomes.

We’re looking forward to building on the momentum and continuing to work together to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders.

Today on International Clinical Trials Day, we recognise the people helping research rise across Aotearoa.

From participants and whānau to nurses, clinicians, researchers, coordinators, and community partners — every contribution helps move research forward and improve health outcomes for future generations.

At ACTT, we’re proud to support collaborative research grounded in partnership, innovation, and community wellbeing.

Together, we are shaping the future of healthcare.

Today on International Nurses Day, ACTT celebrates and thanks the incredible nurses who make a difference every day.

Through compassion, clinical expertise, and leadership, nurses play a vital role in delivering care, supporting patients and whānau, and improving health outcomes across our communities.

At ACTT, we see firsthand the impact nurses have in advancing clinical research - connecting people to new treatments, improving participant experiences, and helping shape the future of healthcare in Aotearoa New Zealand. Pictured here are some of our ACTT team - nurses who support patients, deliver clinical trials, and make research possible locally.

This year’s theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future,” is a powerful reminder that investing in nurses means investing in stronger health services, better care, and healthier communities for generations to come.

Ngā mihi nui to all nurses across Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world - thank you for the care, expertise, and dedication you bring every day.
