Celebrating J!
Last night my phone buzzed with a message from J.
Her eight-year-old son had asked to make chocolate chip cookies. So they did. Together. Flour on the bench, chocolate chips going in the mixing bowl and probably a few into his mouth.
When the cookies came out of the oven, J sat down at the table with her son and ate one and a half of them.
That’s it. That’s the celebration.
She didn’t panic about the cookies.
She didn’t plan an extra hour at the gym to burn them off.
She didn’t skip dinner to make up for them.
She sat at the table, enjoyed warm cookies with her boy and had a real, loving moment with him.
To understand why this is so big, you need to know where J started.
Nine months ago, food ran her life. She was caught in a cycle of eating the “naughty” foods, then feeling like she had to punish herself to make up for it. Every treat felt like a crime against her weight goals. And every crime needed a punishment.
So that’s where we focused our coaching. Her relationship with food came first, long before we worried about anything else.
Why? Because when a food feels dangerous, your body treats eating it as a threat. Stress rises, guilt kicks in, and the urge to restrict or overdo it gets louder. When you take the fear out of food, your nervous system settles. And a calm body finds it so much easier to eat in a balanced way.
Once you stop beating yourself up over a cookie, you get all that energy back. The guilt, the planning, the fixing, the food noise. It quietens down. And what’s left is space for the people and the moments that actually matter.
Like an eight-year-old who wanted to bake with his mum.
This is the shift I love seeing my clients make more than any number on the scales. Relaxing around food is one of the biggest wins there is.
If you’ve got a naughty list in your head and a punishment ready for every slip, you don’t have to live like that.
Picture yourself at your own table, a warm cookie in your hand, feeling nothing but enjoyment.
When you’re ready, DM me “FOOD” and let’s talk about coaching.
