💚 Happy International Allied Health Professions Day! 💚

Today, we’re celebrating all the amazing people who work in allied health and the difference they make in people’s lives every day.
As an orthotist, one of the best parts of our job is seeing how the right support can help someone move with greater confidence, feel more comfortable, regain independence, or get back to doing the things they love. It’s about so much more than braces and orthoses — it’s about people, their goals, and helping them live life to the fullest. 🦿✨

We are proud to be part of such a supportive and collaborative community, working alongside other health professionals to make a real difference.

One appointment. One fit kit. One very different gait. 🙌

Today we had a patient come in after a spinal cord injury that left him without push-off on his left side. He'd tried braces before — uncomfortable, bulky.......so we had to trial an AFO in clinic.

A fit kit means we have a range of off-the-shelf brace components that we can put together, adjust, and trial on the spot. No waiting weeks for a custom build to see the outcome. No guessing. Just real, immediate feedback — for both of us.

We tried a dual module brace and played around with different spring strengths:
👉 A softer spring at the front to help the foot lift during the swing phase
👉 A firmer spring at the back to give that push-off he's been missing

Then we walked. We went up a ramp. We filmed it and watched it back together on the ipad.

The difference was right there on the screen — a cleaner gait cycle, the knee no longer snapping backwards, and his foot actually clearing the ground instead of being left behind

He described his old gait as driving with a flat tyre. Today, he got some air back in it.

This is what modern orthotics looks like. Fit kits give us the ability to show patients exactly what's possible, right now, in the room together.

When rigid just isn't enough.*🦶

Met with a client this week who's been living with the effects of a spinal cord injury — along with a previous ligament transfer to the foot. He came in frustrated. Previous rigid AFOs had been uncomfortable and, importantly, hadn't helped with the push-off phase of his gait. Every step felt like dragging a flat tyre.

On assessment:
• Absent plantar flexion
• Evertor weakness
• Gastrocnemius tightness
• Compensatory knee hyperextension
• Frequent falls on uneven ground

Stay tuned to see how this patient is walking with a in-clinic trial AFO.

His goal? To get back walking the local trails he used to love. And he's well on the way.
