MEET LANE 👋

You might have noticed a new face kicking around Brothers Ink lately, so we figured it was time for a proper introduction.

Lane is Taranaki born and bred, and has spent the last seven years working as a signwriter while developing his tattooing on the side. He’s always been an artist and a hands-on sort of bloke, so tattooing became a pretty natural meeting point between the two.

Outside of tattooing, Lane has a strong background in Māori art and traditional practices, particularly carving and creating taonga. He’s been fortunate enough to learn from some incredibly talented people along the way, and that knowledge continues to influence the way he approaches design, form and making things by hand.

Since joining us at Brothers Ink, he’s thrown himself into studio life and has been progressing bloody quickly.

At the moment, Lane is particularly enjoying traditional tattooing, bold lines, strong shapes and good contrast, while also wanting to push further into dotwork and tā moko. His background in carving gives him an interesting foundation for that, particularly around Māori design, form and creating work that actually belongs on the body.

More than anything, though, he wants people to bring him ideas.

Something finished, something half-baked, or even just the beginning of an idea. Have a yarn, bounce it around and see what you can make together.

When he’s not tattooing, he’s usually still making something drawing, sculpting, working on commissions or experimenting with different materials or spending time with his wife and their three kids.

We’re stoked to have Lane in the studio. He’s keen, he listens, he puts the work in, and he’s here to learn.

So if you’ve seen him lurking around Brothers Ink wondering who the new bloke is…

That’s Lane.

THE RIPLEY PRINTS ARE HERE.

I finally got these back from the printer, and I’m sofu***ng happy with how they’ve come out.

Printed at 647mm × 440mm — roughly A2 size — on archival-grade cotton rag, these are proper high-quality fine art prints, not standard poster stock. The detail and texture have come through beautifully.

I’m doing ONE LIMITED RUN OF 30.

Each print will be signed and individually numbered 1–30.

$100 each.

They weren’t cheap to produce but I wanted them printed properly, on something that is made to last.

They’re in store now at Brothers Ink, or available by arrangement if you can’t make it in.

Once the 30 are gone, that’s the run done.
