I have been talking about bi-directional drivers for a long time now and how it is very hard to cure Lipedema without recognising the role LPS bacteria play in this disease.
Whatâs new is the middle of that diagram: Fascia & Telocytes.
Early (animal) research is showing our fascia isnât just wrapping, it is packed with CD34+ cells that sense mechanical load, and in the gut wall, rare cells called telocytes with super-long arms called cytonemes deliver Wnt signals directly to gut stem cells to help repair the lining.
So the mechanical state of our mesentery and abdominal fascia MIGHT directly talk to gut renewal.
For women with lipedema who also have hypermobility, this could help explain why GI issues are so common and why that low-grade inflammatory loop is so sticky.
Lax connective tissue + altered motility = more dysbiosis â more LPS (lipopolysaccharide) translocation â more systemic inflammation â more fibrosis in fascia and fat â less fascial glide â poorer gut support.
It doesnât mean fascia work âcuresâ gut or lipedema, itâs a sign science is catching up to reframe fascia as a communication system (which most of us have already figured out).
Comment âFasciaâ and I will send you the research paper and my diagram.
