Josy had a lot of fun and amazing learning taking place during her time in Tāmaki Makaurau. With a two day gap from the MANZ conference, Josy flew straight up from Ōtautahi, had a lovely catch up with family, then jumped in to a Vodder Therapist’s Update. This is requirement for therapists trained in the Dr Vodder Method of Lymphatic Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapy to review and refresh their skills, and to learn or revise any updates in an ever evolving industry.

Special guests included Jodie from Jackson-Alison doing a talk on Haddenham compression garments. Neal from Medi-Rent sharing case studies on their SIPC pumps. And prof. Neil Piller giving updates on the latest researching coming out in the field of lymphatics.

The International Lipoedema Association has announced the renaming of Lipoedema to Lipalgia Syndrome (a chronic, painful adipose tissue disorder that causes symmetrical fat accumulation in the lower body while sparing the feet). There is no reference to arms or the abdominal area, and this is where it gets confusing for us as practitioners and for those living with the symptoms described in their arms and abdominal area.

As registered members of (Australasian Lymphology Assn.) we look forward to their advice and recommendation in due course. In the meantime Josy and Bernie will continue to support our Lipoedema clients as we always have.

The Board of the International Lipoedema Association (ILA) has unanimously endorsed the renaming from lipoedema to lipalgia syndrome, supporting a growing international movement towards terminology that better reflects current scientific evidence. Bernie and Josy have had a busy weekend in the beautiful Ōtautahi attending the biennial conference for Massage Aotearoa New Zealand- our professional association for massage therapy.

It has been a wonderful time being around like minded therapists. Insightful presentations, and interesting discussions. There has been lots of catching up with colleagues from around the motu, some we haven’t seen since the last conference!

It was also great to meet new people, put faces to names, and strengthen our therapeutic relationships.

Bernie has been elected on to Te Roopū Kaitiaki, the governance group for Massage Aotearoa New Zealand. Anyone would think she has loads of spare time...🤔
