At a hui last week at Owhata Marae, baths trustee Adele Hubbard stood to tell everyone present that she was very “mamae” about things being said about her and her fellow baths trustees.

Well don’t make silly decisions Adele that cause the people you are supposed to serve mamae.

And stop signing silly farken agreements.

Farken tangiweto! Another one who needs to get off the trust! Can’t own it aye and have to blame social media! Well it wasn’t Facebook that signed a dumb deal it was her!

For our Rotokawa Baths whanau –
A lot of questions are coming in about Rotokawa Baths Trust finances. Here are some of the questions, and my responses after going through the affidavits from the baths trust chair, Veena Kameta, and treasurer Hayden Pore. If we follow the basic rule of thumb (follow the money) we sadly end up in dark tunnel struggling to see the light at the end of it! Transparency is obviously not something they value as trustees. Now this level of unaccountability and non-transparency can not be blamed on “minor administrative oversights or mistakes” as they appear way too often - more than half the time!

Trustee Hayden Pore confronted about his and Veena’s treatment of a kuia and responds that she has ‘Alzheimer disease’ when she doesn’t. As a result, some of her friends believed him and haven’t been contacting her like they usually would 😔

JUST DECLARING A SERIOUS CONFLICT OF INTEREST IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH - STEPPING OUT AND NOT STEPPING IN ALSO REQUIRED BY THE COURT

There have been many cases where the Maori Land Court has found that it is not enough for trustees to simply declare or say they have a conflict of interest that could involve trust assets and then stay in the room when their fellow trustees are discussing and deciding on the matter (eg. If their friend or relative or business partner will benefit from the trust asset). The Court expects the conflicted trustee to leave the room entirely; and not to engage with the matter before it reaches the meeting stage.

Rotokawa Baths trustees Veena Kameta and Hayden Pore broke this fundamental rule by:

1. Veena committing a kaumatua house (a trust asset) to her cousin-laws at a whanau tangi without consulting her fellow trustees and by telling them and others that she would get the trustees to give them a trust house to stay in.

2. Veena being present at the meeting where the tenancy was discussed and decided on by the trustees.

3. Hayden not declaring that one of those tenants was his close friend who he worked with several years ago - and still participating in the discussion and decision to let her stay in the trust house.

What should have Veena and Hayden done? Veena from the outset should have told her cousins “No you would not be eligible because you aren’t kaumatua or No, I can’t help you as we are too closely related or No, talk to the deputy chair.”

Both of them never really stepped out and continued to step in. The result harmed other genuine kaumatua from this land, who mahi for our hapu and marae, because they never got a look in or fair go despite being homeless and despite following the process - sending their requests and bios to the trust email address.

Ok, enough about trolls! Here's some serious stuff.

E te whanau, I want to remind everyone that enrolments for the General Election close this Sunday (25 October) at midnight! This year the law has changed, so if you aren't enrolled before then, you won't be able to vote in this election at all.

Some of our whanau don't want to vote and that's their choice but for those of you who do, note this Sunday's deadline.

It is easy to check your enrolment details (if you have moved since the last election) or to enroll on the Electoral Commission website:

Paper enrolments have closed.

Also, if you have any friends or whanau overseas who don't know how to update their details or vote from out of NZ, send them this link: https://vote.nz/2026-general-election/overseas/vote-from-overseas

Even if you are already enrolled (rawe!) it is a good op to think about who you know who may not be, or who might miss out because of the law change. In the last election, about 450,000 people enrolled after voting had already opened (including on election day), which isn't a possibility this year.

E te whanau! We have a new fan troll! He goes by the name of Oryan McLean but his real name is Frank Stewart McLean from Opotiki. He's about 41-years-old, has convictions for fraud and living out his fantasy of death-threating people online including an FBI director. Now he wants a fight with Renee but he isn't going to get it. So far he has created 10 different profiles to troll this page. We will keep blocking him, so if you see him on this page, just ignore him. We don't know him at Rotokawa Baths or to be one of ours. He appears to have anger and trauma issues. Looking to get famous again (since his last debut in 2017). We don't share posts about all trolls who've come on this page, but this guy likes to threaten lives so we will give him a few hours in the spotlight.
