Reti Hedley joins us in studio for a heartfelt kōrero about IA Music’s latest waiata, Whakakai Marihi.

What began as a waiata Reti and Moetu Smith were writing for their babies became a beautiful tribute to the little lives they had lost. 🕊️

A precious oriori (lullaby) of love and remembrance, giving those little lives a place to live on through music. 🤍

Taupō District Council councillor Wahine Murch echoed concerns over expanded council roles, emphasising that her position does not involve truancy enforcement. “I didn’t sign up to be a truancy officer, I put my hands up to be an elected member. That’s what I am, and nowhere in my job description does it say truancy officer.”

Rotorua Lakes Council councillor Te Rika Temara-Benfell said “ for truancy we have to really understand, you know what’s our purpose, what’s our role as a council, Central Government thinks and we heard one of the Act MP’s talk about councils needing to become new truancy officers and look at how we support truancy and I think actually councils have a huge role to play in our hāpori”.

Māori ward councillors gathered at the Super Local 2026 conference have strongly pushed back against central government reforms, criticising proposed
