🏆 WINNER - COMMUNITY PHARMACY TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR 🏆

VANESSA ANSTEY – QUEEN STREET PHARMACY has taken out the Green Cross Health Community Pharmacy Technician of the Year award at the 2026 New Zealand Primary Healthcare Awards He Tohu Mauri Ora.

Vanessa Anstey’s 30-year career has seen her turn Queen Street Pharmacy’s one consultation room into three, and manage the nursing team at the seven-day Upper Hutt pharmacy, bringing nurses, pharmacists and technicians together around new services. When skin infection presentations increased, Ms Anstey gathered the team and helped develop a process allowing nurses to supply antibiotics for impetigo. The model spread to other pharmacies and nurses. She has also helped Queen Street become Aotearoa’s first community pharmacy accredited to provide childhood immunisations.

The judges say: "Outstanding effort to convert the service from one consultation space to three and to increase the diversity in staff covering nurses, pharmacists, technicians and other support staff and also increase the diversity of service through to provision and support for providing community urgent health care services."
