🐍Ayahuasca — the Aya — works in the shadow. It goes deep, into what’s been buried, into the roots of what needs healing. It’s the medicine of the night, of introspection, of facing what’s been avoided.

🌵Huachuma — the grandfather medicine — works differently. It opens. It brings order. It connects you to the elements, to your body, to stillness and meditation, under daylight rather than in the dark of the maloca.

Neither one replaces the other.

At Aya Madre, your week includes both — because going into the shadow without also learning to open, ground, and integrate isn’t the full circle.

One takes you down.
The other brings you back up, steadier than before.

This is why the week isn’t built around a single ceremony. It’s built around balance.

Meet the grandfather medicine. »🌵

Huachuma — also known as San Pedro — comes from a tall columnar cactus (Echinopsis pachanoi) that grows across the Andes and the Amazon. In Andean and Amazonian tradition, it’s called the « grandfather » medicine, in contrast to Ayahuasca’s « Madre. »🌿

🐍Unlike Ayahuasca, Huachuma is taken during the day. Effects usually begin 1 to 2 hours in, and tend to unfold slowly rather than arrive all at once. Where Ayahuasca is often deeply inward, Huachuma is generally more grounding and expansive — connection to the body, to the land, to the people around you, under open sky rather than inside the ceremony house at night.

At Aya Madre, it’s held by Estela Pangoza with the same care and diagnosis as every other ceremony — read individually, never assumed.

What if it’s too much and I can’t handle it? 😱

That fear is real. And it’s reasonable.
You’re not left to handle anything alone

🌿From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. Estela reads each guest, one by one, and adjusts the medicine and the ceremony to what that person actually needs. Not a group protocol. A person in front of her.

We keep it to a maximum of eight people. Not a crowd you disappear into. Small enough that if something is too much for you, someone notices — right away.✨

This structure exists because of that exact fear. Because « what if I’m overwhelmed and no one sees it » is the first thing we built against.

🍃At Aya Madre, guests don’t just experience the plants — they’re taught by Estela herself: which plant does what, how a dieta works, how the body and the spirit are read together in this tradition.

This isn’t a one-week download. It’s transmission — the same way Estela learned from her own grandparents, and the same way her own children are learning from her now.

🌿For those who want to go further, there’s also a path to study Shipibo medicine directly with Estela over a longer commitment — not a certificate, a real apprenticeship.

You don’t have to already know anything about plant medicine to start.

You just have to actually want to learn it, not just witness it.
