Have you ever felt like every bill got a raise except your paycheck?
I remember a season when the water bill, parking at work, childcare, school fees, rent and groceries kept increasing. Then the yearly bills would arrive: insurance, property tax, the car tag, a subscription I had almost forgotten.
I leaned on my accounting degree and the wisdom that comes from God about preparing and setting resources aside for what is ahead. I began looking at the calendar along with the balance. My income had not risen, but I could see what was coming and prepare earlier.
I want to walk through a small part of that with you.
If you have nothing saved for a $240 bill, having 12 months means a target of $20 a month. Having 3 months means $80 a month.
The bill is the same. The time to prepare changes the monthly amount.
Try this with one renewal: subtract what you have already saved, then divide the amount still needed by the months remaining before the due date.
In Proverbs 6:6 through 8, the ant gathers food during the season when it is available. That example of preparation is something we can practice in the responsibilities we carry today.
Sometimes the calculation reveals a real shortfall. I do not want you to hear that as failure. It tells you what needs attention, whether that means comparing options, asking about payment arrangements or reconsidering an optional renewal.
We can start with one bill. What is the yearly expense that always seems to arrive sooner than you expected?
