✨ Did you know that acupuncture points have international names and codes?
When reading about acupuncture, you may find terms in English, Spanish, and even traditional Chinese names. At first, it may seem complicated, but many acupuncture points are identified using simple abbreviations.
For example:
📍 LI4 – Large Intestine 4
In Spanish: Intestino Grueso 4
Traditional name: Hegu
📍 ST36 – Stomach 36
In Spanish: Estómago 36
Traditional name: Zusanli
📍 SP6 – Spleen 6
In Spanish: Bazo 6
Traditional name: Sanyinjiao
📍 PC6 – Pericardium 6
In Spanish: Pericardio 6
Traditional name: Neiguan
📍 LV3 – Liver 3
In Spanish: Hígado 3
Traditional name: Taichong
📍 GV20 – Governing Vessel 20
In Spanish: Vaso Gobernador 20
Traditional name: Baihui
These abbreviations help professionals and researchers in different countries identify the same acupuncture point more easily when studying or practicing acupuncture.
It is also important to understand that an acupuncture point is not selected simply because it is popularly associated with a particular symptom. A trained professional evaluates the patient and determines which combination of points may be appropriate for each individual situation.
Acupuncture involves much more than “placing needles in certain spots.” It includes anatomical point location, clinical evaluation, and individualized point selection.
