Working with a student around elbow rehab.
The idea was not to isolate the elbow, but to integrate the whole system, starting with the joints around it: wrist and shoulder, then connecting the spine, hips and legs.
The first practice was a wrist improvisation flow, used to increase circulation, variability and perception around the area.
In the second clip, we used the floor as feedback. By changing positions and pressure, the student could regulate the intensity while exposing the wrist and elbow to different angles and stimuli.
In the third clip, we integrated more movement through a constraint: a 4 kg medicine ball. The task was simple, try to steal the ball and bring it to your side.
From that interaction, the elbow naturally had to pull, push, compress, decompress and organize force through multiple directions and angles that are difficult to reproduce alone.
The final practice used pressing and compression with a Swiss ball, again creating more sensory information through the joints, tissues and fascia, while progressively building tolerance and resilience.
This is how I approach these situations: not by looking only at one painful or limited area, but by creating different contexts in which the whole system can perceive, adapt and reorganize.
Whether the goal is rehab, prevention or simply improving the way someone moves, the practice is also about helping the student understand their own body better.
See you at the practice 🐵
