I’m 46 and I’m not afraid to admit that:
1. I teach women about nervous-system regulation and self-care… yet there are days when my own body goes into complete freeze. I’m so drained I don’t have an ounce of energy left.
2. When I’m depleted, I leave things everywhere because even the smallest “extra” task feels like too much.
3. I’ve been in this house for 3 years… and I still have a box of unopened documents that I haven’t sorted through.
4. And then comes the spiral:
Why can’t I just do a 30-minute job? Why can’t I push myself a little harder?
I feel guilty. I feel like a failure.
5. Sometimes I sleep. Sometimes I rest. Sometimes I use my oils, eat ice cream, stay busy, or simply go into a daze and drag myself through the day.
6. I’ve had to admit that I’ve been holding everything together for a very long time.
And when I’m already drained, I can make things worse by pushing myself harder — because some part of me is still afraid that if I stop completely, everything will fall apart.
My system learned to brace.
To toughen up.
To keep going.
But I’m learning something different now.
I don’t always need to push harder.
Sometimes I need to pause. Breathe. Stop generating. Rest.
To protect my boundaries and acknowledge what I actually need.
I’m still learning this.
I’m learning to bite what I can, and leave what I can’t — without making myself wrong for it.
Maybe that unopened box isn’t proof that I’m a failure.
Maybe it’s a reminder that I’ve been carrying a lot.
And maybe I don’t have to finish everything before I’m allowed to rest.
If you’re learning how to be gentler with yourself too, this can be a safe space to do that.
Follow along. We’re learning this together. 🤍
