Sometimes, the hardest person to let go of is not the person in front of you. It’s the person you keep hoping they will become.
You remember the beginning & nice moments. The attention, the closeness, the moments when everything felt possible.
And when things change, you wait.

Maybe when life calms down...
Maybe when they have more time...
Maybe this time they really understood...
Every small moment of closeness gives hope another reason to survive.
And that is how you can remain in a relationship long after you already know something is deeply wrong.
Because you are no longer holding on to what is.

Leaving means grieving more than a person. You grieve the future you imagined — the intimacy, the conversations, the mornings together, the ordinary days, the feeling of finally sharing your life with someone.

and ask:
“What is this relationship actually giving me today?”

I still want love.
Deep, real, honest love.

I used to think that if I loved someone, I had to stay, understand, forgive… and try again.
Now I know:
I can love you.
I can miss you.
And still choose myself.
Sometimes love stays.
But you still have to go.

Maybe they are wounded.
Maybe they are afraid of intimacy.
Maybe they learned to protect themselves through anger, withdrawal or control.
You can understand all of that.
And still say: not in my life.
Understanding someone's wounds doesn't make their behavior less painful — and it doesn't make you responsible for carrying it.
You can have compassion for their story without becoming a victim of it.

You can spend months trying to understand why someone behaves the way they do.
Maybe they’re wounded. Maybe they’re afraid. Maybe they don’t know how to love differently.
But eventually, one question matters more:
How does this relationship make me feel?
