Honoured to have the opportunity to share on menopause management in primary care during the recent FMSA roadshow in Johor Bahru.
Menopause, together with other aspects of sexual and reproductive health, remains one of my key clinical interests. As our population ages, more women will spend a significant proportion of their lives in the postmenopausal years, making it increasingly important for healthcare systems to address their unique health needs.
I strongly believe that primary care doctors should be empowered with the knowledge and confidence to recognise, assess, and manage menopausal symptoms, provide evidence-based counselling, and offer appropriate treatment options, including menopausal hormone therapy when indicated. Timely and holistic care can greatly enhance the quality of life, physical well-being, and emotional health of postmenopausal women.
Menopause is a natural transition, not a disease—but women should not have to suffer in silence. By strengthening menopause care in primary care settings, we can ensure that more women receive accessible, compassionate, and comprehensive support close to home.
Grateful for the engaging discussions and the enthusiasm shown by colleagues and trainees. Looking forward to continuing to advocate for better sexual and reproductive health services in our communities.
