We participated in this year’s conference which discussed diabetes and its complications
All diabetic patients should be advised to reduce sugar,fat and salt intake. Their diet should include starchy carbohydrate foods, eat more fruit and vegetables, fish at least twice a week, stop smoking,increase roughage intake and drink alcohol in moderation.
They don’t need to purchase special slimming foods which are expensive and offer no benefit over ordinary food. They can eat sweet foods as an occasional treat.
Alcoholic drinks shouldn’t be taken on an empty stomach to prevent blood sugar levels going very low. Stopping smoking will reduce the risk of developing diabetes complications(heart attack, kidney damage, nerve damage)
All diabetes patients should visit their physicians on a regular basis.
