On November 12,2023, I received the gift of life from a deceased kidney donor. Grateful, humbled, and overwhelmed. I’ll forever hold the donor and their family in my heart. Now the process of recovery and renewed possibilities begins. Thanks so much to all of you who have supported and encouraged me in so many ways on this journey. Wishing you a joyous holiday!

Enjoying summer while continuing to manage the ups and downs after 17 months on dialysis. I’m still active on the kidney transplant list at University of Michigan Hospital and remain hopeful for a living donor match. Incredible and inspiring story of a life-changing kidney donation “chain”. It both humbles and brings hope to those who are waiting for a kidney transplant.

Even if a living donor is not a perfect match… they may be able to help their intended recipient receive a life-saving kidney by donating through a paired kidney match process. The donor screening and assessment process is no cost, no obligation, and completely confidential.

With all its complexities, a chain of this size is hard to pull off. This one was postponed three times. But with many waiting for a kidney, it's a critical opportunity to save some lives.

This is our little rescue, Reese’s. She’s the best cuddle buddy… especially on tough days when mom needs to rest. For those who have dogs as well… you know how much comfort and joy they bring! Best. Medicine. Ever.

Dialysis requires being connected to a blood filtering machine for 4 hours every other day. I arrive at 5:45 AM and it can sometimes be an uncomfortable and grueling process. Thankful this technology can sustain life, but dialysis only provides about 10-15% of the function of an actual kidney. Dialysis patients have very strict dietary limitations as well as limits on the amount of fluid intake each day. Anemia and other imbalances are an ongoing challenge to manage for me and all dialysis patients. For most people, a kidney transplant is our best option for leading a healthier and better quality of life with more freedom, energy, and time with those we love.
