A STAIRLIFT DOESN’T MEAN GIVING UP ON EXERCISE!
When we installed a straight stairlift for a family, one of their concerns was something we hear quite often:
“What if having a stairlift makes our loved one stop using the stairs and exercising?”
It's a fair question! But here's another way to look at it.
A stairlift doesn't have to replace independence. It can help protect it.
Think of it as a Plan B, not necessarily Plan A.
On days when someone feels strong and can safely manage the stairs, they may continue to use them independently, if appropriate. On days when they're tired, weak, unsteady, or simply need to conserve their energy, the stairlift provides another option.
And let's remember: there are many ways to stay physically active without relying on a staircase for exercise! 🚶♀️ Seated exercises, gentle strength training, balance exercises, and walking, when appropriate, can all play a role in maintaining mobility. The right activities depend on each person's abilities and health.
Why wait until climbing the stairs becomes frightening, a loved one has a near-fall, or the family is facing a crisis?
At Call Before You Fall, we believe in finding solutions that help people remain safely in the homes they love for as long as possible. A stairlift isn't about taking away choices. It's about adding one!
Let's talk about aging in place, independence, and planning ahead!
