So blessed to have the opportunity to help Days of Grace. We are so thankful for our wonderful customers who have given so unselfishly for this great cause. Thank you Days of Grace for all you do! For those of you who would like to participate by giving, come by and donate to our round up program for Days of Grace food pantry. #PDSingit

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to Dyer Drug, Arica Collins, and all of her wonderful staff. During this Covid-19 outbreak many businesses are focusing on keeping their doors open, Arica and the Dyer Drug staff have went above and beyond taking care of their customers and are giving back to the community. Last week they implemented a program that customers could round up their purchases and donate the difference to Days of Grace. This has been a tremendous help during these trying times and we appreciate businesses that help out in the community. A huge thank you for your kindness and generosity this week and in the weeks to come. A huge thank you to all of the individuals who have been kind enough to donate also. I’m not able to list all of them because I don’t want to leave anyone out, I just want you to know your generosity will never be forgotten. Together we can get through this. Thank you and God bless each of you.

Lake Cumberland District Health Department

Lake Cumberland District Health Department

PUBLIC INFORMATION BRIEF

March 25, 2020 10:50 AM

The Lake Cumberland District Health Department (LCDHD) at the current time has nine cases in our 10 county region.
We currently have five positive Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) cases in Pulaski County. One of the Pulaski County positive cases has been cleared, and the other positive cases are currently being monitored for fever and respiratory symptoms and are self-isolated.

We currently have one presumptive positive case in McCreary County we are treating as a positive case. This person is self-isolated and not hospitalized.

We currently have three confirmed positive cases in Wayne. Two are hospitalized and one is self-isolated at home.

LCDHD is working with the Kentucky Department for Public Health to identify and contact all those who may have come in contact with them

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person:
• Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
• Via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
• These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Personal Prevention Measures:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water aren’t readily available, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick with a fever, coughing, sneezing, and having difficulty breathing.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• If you are over 60 or have underlying medical conditions that may make catching the disease more dangerous, please stay home as much as possible at this time.
• Purchase several weeks worth of medications and supplies in case you need to stay home for prolonged periods of time and to decrease the number of trips to purchase supplies.

Community Prevention Measures:
• Practice social distancing of at least 6 feet from others in public.
• Implement environmental surface cleaning measures in homes, businesses, and other locations. Wipe down frequently touched surfaces and objects. Use regular household cleaning spray or wipes as recommended by the CDC.
• In following with Governor Andy Beshears’ order, no social gatherings such as church services, funerals, weddings, etc. will be permitted.
• Retail businesses are closed except for those exempted by the Governor’s order. Those that remain open must observe social distancing for staff and customers. Restaurants are closed except for drive through and delivery. No dining room service is allowed.

What to do if you feel ill:
If you have developed a fever or respiratory symptoms and believe you have had exposure to a known case or traveled to an area with community spread, isolate yourself from others in your home and call your healthcare provider or local health department to describe your symptoms and any recent travel before you go to the healthcare facility.

If you feel ill enough to need a doctor’s care, please call your healthcare provider prior to showing up at their office. If you want to be tested for the Covid-19, call the provider to see if they are offering testing prior to going to their office. All providers will screen you for symptoms prior to deciding to do further testing. Many providers will require a flu and/or strep test prior to testing for Covid-19. No testing is being done on non-symptomatic patients. If you feel you need emergency treatment, please call the hospital prior to arrival to alert them to your symptoms.

Stay home when you are sick. Do not leave home until you have been fever free for at least 72 hours without any fever reducing medication, your other symptoms have improved, AND at least 7 days have passed since your symptoms first appeared.

LCDHD Response:
What we have done:
• implemented our Department Operations Center and are at a level 3 (enhanced activation)
• updated our Board of Directors, local community partners, media, and the public.
• received a “push” from the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) and distributed Personal Protective Equipment to Emergency Operation Center
• shut down our health department clinics to essential services only.
• provided information packets to all primary care physicians in our region with information on Covid-19

What we are doing:
• contact investigations and issuing quarantine orders for those with Covid-19
• responding to issues of non-compliance with the Governor’s order to close down businesses specifically told to shut down for a period of time.
• created a weekly meeting to update media and public on Covid-19 in our region.
• in the process of planning for mobile testing centers once test kits are available in our area.
• planning for mass immunization clinics once a vaccine is available in our area.

Today, we began servicing our customers with drive thru, curbside and delivery only. Our hours are 830a-8p M-F and 8a-1p on Sat. In addition, we began working in teams. In the unfortunate case that someone becomes ill, we would still have 1/2 of our team working. I know the service is going to be different, but everyone here is working so hard to continue to serve the community. Our team is amazing, if I do say so myself and they are working on the front line for all of you. Thank you Clinton County for supporting us, we are here for you. Stay strong and stay safe, we’ve got this! #pdsingit

** Just found out, it may take 10-15 days according to the distributor due to high demand. I wanted to let everyone know in case that influences your decision to purchase** Would anyone be interested in purchasing masks? I can order 2 styles in 1000 count quantities. N95 masks which are reusable for around $6 and the disposable masks for $1. Obviously, the more expensive provide better protection. If interested, let me know how many you would like and I will see if we have enough interest in our community to purchase. Thanks #pdsingit

How Chaos at Chain Pharmacies Is Putting Patients at Risk

Everyone should understand that taking time to fill prescriptions is not an indication of incompetence. It means that your Pharmacists and techs value your health and well being enough to take the time to make sure it is right! Most people don’t understand, we double check the Doctor’s orders for accuracy. On any given day, our Pharmacy carries thousands of drugs, bills 30 plus different insurance companies, deals with insurance billing issues, answers 4 phones lines, responds to electronic and faxed prescription requests, contacts insurance companies and Doctor’s offices to try to get the best medicine for you refilled or covered for the correct copay, provides vaccinations to prevent illness and services a drive thru window and 2 cash registers. We also coordinate county wide delivery 5 days a week and package medications for 2 facilities. If it takes a little extra time to fill your prescription, please understand we are making sure the prescription filled for the child in front of you is correct, so we don’t overdose her. The gentleman standing beside you has terminal cancer and we are filling pain medication for him. I need to make sure his current medications don’t interact with this new medicine. I take pride in my career and these customers are my family! I tell you this not because we need a pat on the back. We LOVE what we do and are honored to serve the community we call home!

Pharmacists across the U.S. warn that the push to do more with less has made medication errors more likely. “I am a danger to the public,” one wrote to a regulator.

Thanks to everyone today for the “likes and shares”. Our big winner today is...
