A recent study showed that consuming 1 tablespoon a day, for 5 weeks, drastically reduced or stopped the spread of breast cancer cells, reducing mortality rates by 71%! It is believed that the lignan is the hero here.
Lignan is a plant derived phytoestrogen that has a hormone balancing effect, not to mention its antioxidant properties. Bonus points - it also contains Omega-3 fatty acids! Win!
Mix it in with your smoothies or soups.

Debunking the Soy Myth: Does Soy Increase Breast Cancer Risk? Separating Fact from Fiction

Contrary to widespread fears, eating soybeans or soy-containing foods does not raise breast cancer risk! (Mayo Clinic, 2025)

Early concerns stemmed from a rodent study that soy’s isoflavones, plant compounds structurally similar to estrogen, caused breast cancer. However, human metabolism of isoflavones differs significantly from rodents, where high-dose animal studies showed cancer-promoting effects that do not translate to typical human soy consumption. (AICR, 2024; American Cancer Society, 2025)

What the Latest Research Shows: Soy’s Safety and Potential Benefits

Large population studies, especially in Asian countries with lifelong soy consumption, show up to a 30% reduction in breast cancer risk associated with moderate soy intake. (PubMed review, 2016; WebMD, 2024)

Let's focus on foods that help prevent cancer. This week, specifically breast cancer.
According to WebMD, cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, brussels sprouts, bok choy, and collard greens are high in antioxidants and compounds such as sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol, which may help regulate estrogen metabolism and reduce the spread of breast cancer cells. Leafy greens like spinach and kale also contain chlorophyll and vitamins A and C, which help neutralize free radicals and carcinogens in the body.
Eat your broccoli! (steamed is best according to us!)

Happy Indigenous People's Day!
Did you know that Native Americans have long used, and still do, mushrooms for food and medicine? It's true, and science is finally starting to catch up.
There are many mushroom that are used in the prevention and treatment of cancer. Today we focus on the humble, yet powerful button mushroom. A 2004 study showed that women who eat 1/3 oz a white button mushrooms a day had a reduced rate of getting breast cancer of 64%.
Remember, mushrooms MUST be cooked. We recommend sauteing in water (instead of oil) then add just a bit of olive oil or butter and salt and pepper at the end of cooking. Enjoy!

Happy Fall Equinox everyone!
As I have been out and about today I have observed a lot of negative energy and rude behavior. This seems to be the norm lately. So today, on the Equinox, the day of perfect balance, I challenge you all to spread some positive energy, love and kindness. Every thing counts, no matter how small...a kind word, holding a door open, saying hello, and even just offering a smile.
We have the power to change our world. đź’—
