Next weekend! A 3 day immersion into the world of Ayurveda: Integrating Practice and Lifestyle Into Our Teachings with Akasha Searcey through NGYC.

This three-day training runs from September 17 through 19.⁠

The sister science of Yoga has so many amazing tools as well as gifts. Ayurveda is like the human handbook. When we take the time to understand the doshas and how energy moves in and within our energy bodies then we are able to be to cultivate continual renewal in our body that allows us to reach our human potential in this lifetime. Take this workshop to do a deep dive into the practices and lifestyle that is Ayurveda. Learn how to offer Ayurvedic Marma Therapy in your classes as well as how to sequence for and celebrate the doshas. Yoga is for everyone and Ayurveda can be a lovely lighthouse to guide you home to your true nature.⁠

The Art of Ashtanga Master Class - September 18th, 2 to 4 pm

Join Jackie to explore the art and experience of Ashtanga yoga. This 2 hour master class will focus on learning and incorporating the benefits of Ashtanga into a yoga practice. Informed and prepared, you will encounter a full practice of this expansive form of yoga.
Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga as taught Sri K. Pattabhi Jois is a system of postures linked together by breath and movement. This is an ancient and powerful discipline for cultivating physical, mental and spiritual health. Progressive techniques of breath, posture and movement, cleanse, stretch and strengthen the body as well as focus and calm the mind. A deeper experience of the self becomes possible through consistent practice.

Jackie will guide you thru the practice focusing on breath and alignment. We will start with the opening chant and progress thru Sun Salutations A & B, standing postures, seated postures, closing postures, Savasana and end with the closing chant. Q&A session afterwards.

Get to know Victoria! She's new to the Oya teaching team and is leading a workshop that begins this Friday, September 10 at 6:30 pm - Learn more on our website! We asked her a few questions to get to know her better:

O: How long have you been practicing yoga and how has your practice changed over this time?
V: I have been practicing Yoga for about 7 years now. My practice changed as much as my life did since I unrolled my yoga mat for the first time. As a former athlete diagnosed with serious chronic disease, I was looking for something to replace my strenuous physical routine and found yoga classes nearby. What started as a pure exercise turned into a life-changing spiritual journey. Consistent yoga practice and the ancient healing system of Ayurveda, eventually helped me to reverse chronic disease, heal from past traumatic experiences and overcome eating disorder.

O: Tell us about how you got into Ayurveda and what it has done for you
V: After practicing yoga for few years, symptoms of my disease definitely improved and flare-ups would occur less and less frequently. However, I still had many questions and needed directions in mostly my day-to-day life like: diet most appropriate for my mindbody type, sleeping routine, stress management, seasonal routines, and self-care. Seeking answers to those questions brought me to yoga sister science - Ayurveda. The ancient healing system's simple practices and tools helped me to come to balance and "activate" that self-healing mechanism so I was able to reverse incurable chronic disease.

We are made of nature and in nature so living in synchrony with natural rhythms brings us to balance or state of well-being.

O: What advice would you give someone starting their yoga journey?
V: Whatever brings you to Yoga - physical or spiritual aspect, do not focus too much on either, do not set your expectations or goals - just keep practicing and observe the transformation Yoga initiates in you.
Go more inward versus outward. Create more internal space and peace versus seeking satisfaction and approval externally.
