Hunting season is here in the Panhandle — and if there's one thing worth adding to your gear list this year, it's hearing protection.

A single gunshot registers around 140 to 175 decibels. For reference, permanent damage can occur at 120. That means one unprotected shot is enough to cause hearing loss that never comes back.

What actually works:
🎯 Electronic earmuffs — amplify normal sound, cut the blast. Best of both worlds.
🎯 Custom-molded plugs — comfortable enough to wear all day in a blind
🎯 Doubling up (plugs + muffs) for high-volume days at the range

The guys who've been hunting for 40 years without protection are the same ones sitting in our office now asking why they can't follow conversations at family dinners.

Protect it while you still have it!

We won. And we’re still a little stunned. 🏆

The Hearing Haven was named Best of Amarillo in the 2026 Community’s Choice Awards — and the part that gets us is right there in the name. Nobody bought this. People filled out a ballot and wrote us down.

Two years ago this was one specialist and a lot of hope.

Thank you, Amarillo. This one’s yours. 💙

"Emily truly cares for her patients."

Of everything people say in reviews, that's the one that means the most — because it's the whole reason this practice exists.

Emily didn't open The Hearing Haven to move product. She opened it because she believed hearing care in the Texas Panhandle could feel personal, unhurried, and genuinely kind.

Two years and dozens of reviews later, it's clear that's coming through.

Thank you, Elizabeth. And thank you to everyone who has trusted us with their hearing! 💙

Quick reminder as we head into the last stretch of the year: most insurance benefits reset on January 1, which means anything you haven't used is gone.

If your plan includes a hearing benefit this is the time to use it.

That could mean:
👂 A covered hearing evaluation
🦻 An allowance toward hearing aids
🔧 Covered follow-up or maintenance visits

Not sure what your plan includes? That's what we're here for. We'll check your benefits before your appointment so you know exactly what's covered and what isn't — no surprises, no guessing.

Give us a call and let's find out what you're sitting on!

A lot of people treat post-concert ringing as just part of the experience. It isn't. It's your ears telling you something got damaged.

Early warning signs your hearing has already taken a hit from noise:

👂 Ringing or buzzing after loud events (even if it goes away)
👂 A muffled or "underwater" feeling that lasts hours afterward
👂 Trouble following conversations in noisy rooms
👂 Turning the TV up more than you used to
👂 Sensitivity to sounds that never bothered you before

Here's the important part: temporary symptoms that resolve still represent real damage. It's cumulative, and it adds up quietly over years.

If any of this sounds familiar, a hearing evaluation gives you a baseline and tells you exactly where you stand. Better to know now than to wonder later.

Johnny came in nervous. He left wondering what he'd been worried about.

That's a pretty common story around here. Most people build up an appointment in their head — especially when it involves something as personal as your ears.

But Emily walks you through every single step before it happens. No surprises, no discomfort, no mystery.

If nerves are what's been keeping you from coming in, consider this your permission slip. You're going to be just fine!

Here's one that catches people off guard: personal listening devices can reach volumes that damage your hearing in under 15 minutes.

And because earbuds sit directly in your ear canal, there's nothing between that volume and the delicate structures inside.

The easiest fix is something called the 60/60 rule:
🎧 Keep the volume at or below 60% of maximum
⏱️ Take a break after 60 minutes

A few other things that help:
→ Noise-canceling headphones let you listen at lower volumes because you're not fighting background noise
→ Over-ear beats in-ear when you have the choice
→ If someone next to you can hear your music, it's too loud

You don't have to give up your podcasts. Just give your ears a break every now and then!

If you've ever given up on earplugs because they were uncomfortable or made everything sound muffled — you're not alone. That's the problem with generic foam.

Custom hearing protection is molded to your ears specifically, which means:

✅ It actually stays in place
✅ It's comfortable enough to wear all day
✅ It reduces harmful volume without blocking everything
✅ It lasts for years instead of getting tossed after one use

We make custom protection for people who work around machinery, hunters, musicians, motorcyclists, and anyone who's just tired of fighting with foam.

The impressions take about 20 minutes. The protection lasts for years. Pretty good trade!

Emily got her in right away, walked her through the whole process, and had the finished product ready in no time.

This is exactly what National Protect Your Hearing Month is about. If your job puts you around loud equipment, machinery, or engines, custom hearing protection isn't a luxury. It's the difference between keeping your hearing and losing it a little at a time.

Come see us. We'll get you taken care of!

Most people have no idea how loud the sounds around them really are. Here's a quick reference:

🔉 60 dB — Normal conversation. You're fine.
🔉 85 dB — Heavy traffic, a lawn mower. Damage starts here with prolonged exposure.
🔊 95 dB — Motorcycle, power tools. Limit to under an hour.
🔊 110 dB — Concert, chainsaw. Damage in under 5 minutes.
🔊 140+ dB — Gunshot, fireworks. Instant, permanent damage.

Here's the part that matters: the damage is cumulative. Every loud exposure adds up over a lifetime, and the tiny hair cells in your inner ear don't regenerate once they're gone.

The fix is simple. If you have to raise your voice to be heard, it's loud enough to hurt you — and that's your cue to protect your ears.
