A new CDC report looks at rates of HPV vaccination among adolescents and teens. About 78% of adolescents had received at least one dose of HPV vaccine, which protects against HPV-related cancers. About 63% of teens were up to date on HPV vaccination. These rates have remained stagnant for the past four years.
The report also found significantly lower HPV vaccination coverage among teens living in rural areas compared with those in urban areas. Researchers noted that factors including fewer well-child visits, lower vaccine acceptance and fewer clinician recommendations may contribute to these disparities.
HPV vaccination is a safe, effective way to protect children and adolescents from HPV infection that can lead to six types of cancers (cervical, vaginal, vulvar, a**l, pe**le and oropharyngeal) as well as hospitalization, disability and death. The AAP recommends starting the HPV vaccination series between 9 and 12 years. Learn more in AAP News: https://bit.ly/4iUnXrA
